Default Blending different guitar sounds

I had a really eye-opening (or should I say "ear-opening"!) experience recently when I recorded a jam with UK guitarist Ben Walker last week.

Ben and I play very different instruments, he plays a long scale Fylde Falstaff Fanfret (how's that for alliteration!) in Cocobolo and Sitka Spruce and I was playing my Kostal MDW Signature model in Birdseye Maple and German Spruce and yet I'm very happy to hear how the two instruments complement each other. two very different sounds and build styles that just seemed to mesh.

The guitars were recorded with a matched pair of Gefell M300's and no effects or treatment.

I'm in your left ear, Ben is in your right

Let me know your thoughts!

I really enjoyed listening to that - thanks for sharing.

I would say that apart from complementary sounds of the guitars, the mix is helped a lot (of course) by the strong melody carried by Ben and your 'restraint' as well as the musicality of you both. It was interesting to hear the separation more in the trebles - sort of blending more in the bass which I guess is less directional.

It would have been interesting to hear the roles reversed...

Wonderful session, Michael! Goes to show that your talents, musicality and top shelf instruments carry the day with great mics! Truly a beautiful sound with no processing!!
Best,
Fred

Sounded good Michael! Two very good guitar players playing two very good guitars, recorded through two exceptional microphones...

What's not to like? In fact, it sounded great!
