Default new amp day (and I am such a convert now!)

I had a good monster Peavey metal amp back in the 80's. It had built in distortion, a ton of tone/EQ adjustments and spring can reverb. I added a phaser and had everything I wanted.

Decades later I got a nice little acoustic practice amp (Fender Acoustasonic 15). I kept adding pedals and then got into pedalmania.

My friend is a pro and uses a modeling amp and playing his gear is sooooo simple.

I did the math and can sell all my individual pedals and just about pay off a brand new modeling amp.

I did research and decided on a Fender Mustang GT 100, but I wanted the optional 4 preset foot pedal.

I found an incredible deal on Amazon. Same lowest price, but free shipping and a free pedal (which is a better deal than any used units or even sale prices I could find).

Had it set up in about 5 minutes, including wifi connection and software update. Played with it for half an hour without even cracking the instructions - it's so intuitive and the sound possibilities seem "infinite".

Such a fantastic amp and it sounds so good and noiseless.

Built in looper, tuner, everything. And it has a dual XLR outputs so connecting to a PA is a piece of cake.

Oh, and (of course) it has an exact Fender Acoustasonic model built-in so, other than a mic channel I lost absolutely nothing.

Just played my acoustic (K&K through a LR Baggs preamp) in Acoustasonic amp mode and (once again) the sound was glorious.

Man I wish I would have discovered this years ago.

Good choice Fazool. I went the route of small tube amps for home use and now they’re all sitting in the closet. The GT 100 would have been much better for home use flexibility, and less expensive too.

(* Ha-ha, written during an acoustic guitar “phase”, and no longer applicable)

I'm not sure but it sounds like it is.

Another thing I am loving about this modeling amp is the accessibility of tone. It sounds gimmicky until you use it and you might wonder how you ever lived without it.

You want Billy Gibbons tone on La Grange? That's model #73
You want Angus Young's tone on Rock and Roll? That's model #111
etcetera

And you can craft your own and store it. For example I am going to replicate my former pedalboard (which was all digital pedals, anyway).

And, you can share and download other peoples' models.

In addition to the foot switch to select between models, you have a built in tuner and looper but there is a feature called "set list" where you can set up your amp choice for a sequence of songs and click through and have a new amp model for each song.

I've only been using this thing a few days - it's so easy to master it.

This is definitely true. I tried modeling before and found it frustrating. It's like when you go to a sandwich shop and they ask you which of the 14 million options do you want on your sandwich... Just give me a freakin' ham and Swiss!

I went to a music festival this weekend where I saw literally 50 bands and not one of them was using anything other then tube amps on stage.

But not to carp on Faz's tread. Congrats on finding something you like. I have heard good things about the Mustangs.

I'll tell ya the one that I really liked was the Fly Rig. I could see using one of those in given situations. I liked it becasue it was simple.

As a long time Fender Amp owner, congrads! And only 22 pounds??!!

I got two original 60's blackface. The "lightweight" one (Deluxe Reverb) is about 45 lbs. Once you're an old man those vintage amps will destroy your back. That's when you start jones-ing for new-fangled modelling amps, just for the weight reductions.

Yeah, modeling amps have made it difficult to buy tube amps anymore...sound great, lots of options, 1/3rd the price, and lightweight!!!

I have several tube amps. I am now tempted to get the Katana 100 head. But I a,so want the Marshall Origin 50 head. Decisions!

Maybe I should get both. Katana is only $349.

Default Modeling Amps

First of all, congratulations on your new amp. No matter what anyone says there's only one person that has to be happy, that's you! Modeling has made huge advances over the last few years. Especially Line 6 with the Helix! Played through one a couple times and it was an experience.

Positives and negatives for all types of amps. I also recently bought a "new to me" amp. Waited quite some time before I found a good deal on a used one. Not going to hack your thread but its a JVM M_____ll. The only thing I've found close to equaling this thing at a mere 39lbs. is plutonium!

We're both happy men!
As Angus would say, "Have a drink on me!"
Cheers!!!
