Plan where your hangers will go before you put them up. Draw it out on paper with measurements.
Thanks a lot, I agree, they will look great against that wood. I will pre-place things for sure, I am a real visual guy and have to see it before I can really tell what looks good. There is a closet door to consider as it opens against the wall.

Yes or at least a significant other that allows the office to first double as and now become a guitar room!!!! She loves the way this came out, really adds character to this room and allows it to stand out from the others. The wood really warms that room up!

I may have missed it but mind if I ask how you attached the pieces to the wall?

No problem, they are milled to about 7/8 inch thick with a ship lap profile so the back is smooth with a lip on the bottom and a groove on the top. I simply found the studs and used a 16 gauge finishing nail and nail driver. The easy part is you do not have to worry about joining on a stud as you can nail through into the lap on the bottom and the piece over the top also holds it in. I just made sure everything was running level and keeping all the joints staggered.

Most of these pieces were Oak, Cherry, some pine, and a few walnut.

Looks fantastic Tom! How much time did you think it took you from start to finish?

I did it by myself so things slowed down when I had to move a ladder around when I could no longer reach to nail. I would say I did 6 hours on day one and another 2 on day two. I was taking my time trying to pick the right colors and sizes for each spot, it was kind of like an art project in a way choosing the contrasts and blends.

Check out Hardwoods4Less - I had a very good experience with them. Look for reclaimed wood from factories, etc. Flooring works just fine on walls. Also I have a friend who sells barn wood for a living. As you know, there are a lot of them over here by me.
