Yesterday, I got my Dazzo #70 set with jack and now I'm awaiting delivery of my Loctite 6-Minute Epoxy Gel, maybe on Monday? ...

Watching the thread with interest. I use the Trance MVT Phantom in a 000-14 CS Martin with my just new Bose S1 Pro. Very dynamic, responsive and powerful combination. The Trance tone wheels are so helpful to tweak tone. While I am playing in home now, I formerly plugged direct xlr to a large house PA. (I use a Rolls PB23 mic power for phantom to the Bose) I credit Doug Young’s review- and purchase from Maury from his youtube reviews of the Trance and Aero’s review of the Bose. Good advice here!

I'm also a satisfied Trance M-VT user having used the systems in several guitars with great results. I wanted to try a Dazzo system because of the good reviews that Dazzos have received on AGF. I'll soon post my experience on AGF once I get it installed.

Aaron - here are a couple of recordings I made demonstrating the pickups' tone direct into my interface. Both were excellent, in my opinion. I appreciate all your posts, and subscribe to your YouTube channel. Cheers! ~ Mike

Mike, First of all, Excellent Playing!

Both guitar sound files sound great--Recording Studio Quality! What guitars are you playing and with what EQ parameters for each guitar/pickup system? Being in the Bay Area, did you have Teddy and Gary install the systems for you? Thanks.

Thanks Spruce! The Dazzo is a 37T, and was installed by Teddy himself in his San Jose workshop while I watched. No EQ added in Logic Pro X, and had to cut the gain by 3 dB because the Dazzos are so hot. Guitar is a carbon fiber Blackbird Lucky 13.

The Trance is an Amulet MVT, installed by Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto. No EQ added in GarageBand. Guitar is a Taylor GS8. Gary Hull did install my first couple of Amulets, before the turn of the century!

Thank you. I would say they sound fairly similar. Can’t wait to try these out for myself!

Mike, Thanks for doing this. Big Dazzo fan here. It's nice getting more examples of Dazzos in action. It wouldn't surprise me that both pickups would yield similar results. I see that each recording was different from guitars to recording device anyway so it's difficult to compare.

Recorded direct, both have a touch of piezo quality. No surprise there. When plugged in to a speaker, that piezo quality seems to go away and that's where these two pickups shine.

What is important here to remember with these pickups, you are starting with a good sound. Many pickups start with something you have to "fix" about the sound. Muddy, boomy, quacky, sizzly, honky, etc. These are a plug and play solution. You plug your guitar into your system and you are ready to go with very little to adjust. Some report they are always set flat. I simply set my high pass filter and boost some trebles. The only difference is the amounts of adjustments. Those knobs never get turned very far.

I agree. Undersaddles and K&K’s have to be fixed where these are good to go. They are still pickups and not microphones but that isn’t always a bad thing. I am also expecting IR pedals to work nicely as a touch can be added to enhance the tone instead of trying to cover up the bad stuff.

Vancebo - completely agree. The recordings were made 5 years apart. Wish I had both at the same time in identical guitars.

I have ToneDextered my Trance system. It really turned out nice.

I bet Tonedextering a Trance or Dazzo is exactly what would make a direct recording sound great. I Tonedextered my love sound and found that it was not really an improvement. It was a little different, but didn’t necessarily make the live sound better than the straight Dazzo. When the Sunnaudio gear came along, I preferred the functionality of the MS-2 over the magic of a Tonedexter. TD’s strength is indeed making bad sounds into good sounds. With my Dazzos through the TD, it made a good sound into a slightly different good sound.

Have you tried with the 2.0 firmware? I found little improvement with ToneDexter and Dazzo until the 2.0 update. Then there was a pretty dramatic improvement. (I use both the MS-2 plus help from ToneDexter...)
