I have both. A Tele is a straight swiss army knife guitar. Great. The main reason I bought a Strat is for positions 2 and 4...you can't get that sound from anything else.

You can’t really get the #1 position from anything else either. A strat is a totally unique animal, nothing’s else sounds like a strat. Some people love it (I play a strat for 90% of my electric playing), some people hate it, but there’s nothing else like it. A tele is a great guitar, but I never find a reason to play it when there’s a strat there. Give me a strat 90% of the time and a solid body P90 axe the other 10% of the time and I have all of the sounds I ever need out of an electric guitar. A hot tele bridge pickup with some dirt sounds great, but I like a bridge P90 with dirt more, so teles get squeezed out of my playing altogether.

I have 54+ guitars/basses in my collection.
IF I HAD to choose 2 out of my collection that would cover most styles for me, it would be these 2. My Tom Anderson IS the configured the way I prefer because it super versatile tonally and can cover a lot of styles. I do have quite a few "Classic" Fender Tele's,but I've never bonded with them. '03 Tom Anderson Hollow T Drop Top HSH: ![]() As for a Strat style guitar, my Suhr offers me what I prefer from a Strat. I personally want/need a humbucker in the bridge, as I've never cared for the strat bridge single coil pickup. This Suhr SSH have vintage style pickups and I can cover a lot of different musical genres with it. '15 Suhr Classic Pro SSH: ![]()

Comfort Ergonomics: Strat by a wide margin
Looks: Telecaster by a slim margin Tone: Of course its personal but Tele by a slim margin. X factor: Telecaster. Strats and Les Pauls. “Everyone” has one. Their ubiquitousness makes them common and boring in a way. While the Tele still somehow retains some uniqueness even though they are common as potato chips too. My choice: Neither. Stratocaster HSS and Tele Deluxe

I have both, but have to say, I prefer my tele partscaster. However, I have to say the most comfortable body I ever held is a jazzmaster. I have had an idea for awhile to build a jazzcaster esquire. I think I am going to start gathering parts. Think the pickup will be a Seymour Duncan La Brea.

My gut tells me that Strats outsell Teles, especially when you consider Squiers.

How about if we’re just talking Fenders.

Just Fenders, my gut tells me that Strats outsell Teles but I have nothing to back that up with. I don't think Fender releases that information but I wonder if a major retailer like Guitar Center releases that info. Or Reverb on the used market?

I just kind of go by the order in which GC and Sweetwater puts their solid body electrics when you open up that page. It could be the number of clicks each guitar gets but thats still interest if not sales. My gut tells me Strat too.

Before I finally broke down and bought a MIM Tele from the classifieds here, I had been playing my Brondel Sonic Blue Honeycaster Strat with a Tele bridge pickup.
Best of both worlds. http://lblutherie.blogspot.com/2012/...aster.html?m=1
