Speaker size
If you have two acoustic amplifiers of identical wattage, and one has a 6.5 inch speaker and the other, an 8 inch, is the projection and volume of the 8 inch going to be significantly more?

Depends a lot on the efficiency of the speakers and design of the cab.

All other things equal, yes, the 8 inch speaker moves more air.

I have a Fishman LBM with 6.5 speaker and a Fender Acoustasonic 30 with an 8". Fishman is great and sounds wonderful until you try it side by side with the Fender. The Fender sounds much better IMO. Could be many other factors besides speaker size but it is noticeable.

No, bigger size does not automatically mean louder.
Larger speakers can reproduce lower frequencies than smaller speakers. Smaller speakers (to a lesser degree) can better reproduce higher frequencies.

Sealed or open back cabinet? High end or cheap (under $400) amplifier? High Frequency driver or not? My experience with prosumer and pro model acoustic sealed back amps is that 8" is a rather magic size. The 6.5" (and smaller) sound thin, and don't have much power, and are easy to overdrive. The 10" tend to be strident. I doubt I'm alone in my choice of 8" woofer/main-speaker for acoustic amps. |

Sealed back $400 amp with 6.5 inch woofer, 1 inch high frequency tweeter. Specifically, Nux Stageman 50 to replace my aging Ultrasound DS4. I have used my Ultrasound in the past primarily for patio/picnic shelters performance to 30-50 people. My old Ultrasound had sufficient power and projection outside for that sort of setting. Just wondering if I would lose much of that with a 6.5 inch speaker

I really don't think the majority of people would notice a difference.

Just a reminder, we don't buy gear for the majority of people. We buy it for ourselves.
Yes, the 8 inch will push more air and I echo ljguitar's response, for acoustic guitar I believe the 8" is perfect. I have 2x8 in my Schertler Jam 400 and a QSC CP-8 (w/ an 8"). But loudness is a factor of speaker efficiency, not size. |

Semantics aside we are all part of a majority in one way or another.

I"m guessing you get my point, we buy gear to satisfy ourselves, not "the majority" who ever that might be,..
