Default The Box

Michael seems to moving forward and having a bit of fun at the same time. He has actually moved on to the neck and fingerboard but I will share that in my next update.

The “box” in closed, bound and purfled. I think Michael’s 00 body has an elegant line to its plantilla. The top photo shows the beautiful Swiss Alpine Spruce top, the sand scorched Koa rosette and contrasting Gaboon Ebony binding. The lower photo provides some foreshadowing of the quartersawn Koa’s figure.

Some details of the Holly purfling and Gaboon Ebony binding (right) and the floating Gaboon Ebony backstrip against the fiddleback Koa figure of the back.

Here is the Gaboon Ebony/Holly/Koa end graft now that it is bound and purfled (top) and the end graft with some solvent wiped on it to bring out the hue and figure of the Koa (bottom).

A detail of some of the endless miters that luthiers create. Some signs of silking is evident in the detail of the Swiss Alpine Spruce top and the Pau Ferro top purfling by the Florentine cutaway and some of the subtle sand scorching in the Koa rosette is also seen (bottom).

Wow, that is looking just great thus far. The Koa really came alive with a little fluid!!! That is going to be outstanding.

That is looking incredible!

That Koa is something else--will be mind blowing once the finish goes on. The top is really something to behold as well!

Really love Michael's aesthetic and style...

Having passed "officially envious" with last round of posts, I am now just coming up on "insanely jealous" and need to take a break to keep my composure.

Congratulations - she is going to be a beauty, in fact already is.

You have two of Michael’s guitars and one in the queue, I suspect that you’ll survive this incident...

Default Roughing the Neck n’ Fretboard

Some shots of Michael fabricating a one-piece Honduran Mahogany with a bolt-on neck and a 19-fret, 1-3/4” to 2-1/4” tapered Gaboon Ebony Fretboard.

Bob, that looks good from way over here in Washington.
Imagine how good it will look when it's finished and in your arsenal...
