Default Fender Telecaster strap issue

Hey all,

I feel REALLY stupid even asking this but I have gone through multiple straps and every time I play the guitar it slides. No matter what strap it is a struggle to keep the neck from drooping. Most of my other electrics to not have this issue. If anyone has had this issue how did you solve it? I love the guitar but its **** hard to play because of this issue.

I know you said it didn't matter what strap, but have you tried a padded leather one like Franklin makes? I have one on my Les Paul and it has enough friction against my skin and clothes to stay put like it should. Fabric, especially nylon, ones give me problems too.

I suggest a wide leather strap and make sure it is fitted properly with the correct distance to your shoulders and centered well. I always use a thick leather strap.

My bass player has a really nice Levy's padded strap. If his strap locks fit mine I'd use it on my Les Paul.

As the others say, a wide leather strap helps. In addition, make sure the backing on the strap (the side that's against your body) is suede, not smooth leather, so it is less likely to slide around.

Thanks for the input guys! I have been using dunlop straps on my Les Paul, Explorer and Schecter with no issue so I bought one for the Tele a while back as well as my JAckson. I haven't tried it on the Jackson yet but as for the Tele it is better that the Fender one they give you (with the smooth back) but it still slides. A wide leather strap with suede is the one type of strap I haven't tried. Oh well guess I'll have to buy yet another strap lol. It must be the way the Tele is balanced that it falls. Every other guitar I have stays fine.

Your conclusion is correct.

Either go wide leather suede..or the 50's Vintage style neck that Franklin makes which has a wider shoulder portion (than those typically narrow ones.)

You could also get a Strat...

Haha. I'm sure one day I might get a strat, but at this point I'm too impoverished. Either way I could try the wide leather/suede strap. About how much do they run?

They arent cheap. At least $50 bucks here, sometimes shockingly more. Test it out in the store first though. Would be a waste to buy it and then find it made little diff.

Are you using a leather strap atm? :Unpadded?

Suede backing on a strap is the answer to happiness.

I get my 3" suede straps here in town for $25.00 and they are made in the USA. I have three, Brown, Butterscotch, and Black. I got a 2" Levy's for my Godin in tan for $22.00. If you can't find one cheap enough I could ship you one if your in the states.PM me if your interested.

i haven't tried them but there are the crossover type that go over both shoulders.

i have a tele and use a wide leather strap that gets use on multiple guitars. i haven't had that problem with the tele but each person holds and plays their guitar a little differently.

play music!

The body is too light .
Adding weight to the correct part of the body or strap will correct this .

Attach a weight to the strap .
I have never needed to do this with any guitar that I have so I am just thinking off the top of my head .
Be creative in this and try different things , but the correct counter weight will cure this .
I would try different weights until I got the right one and then set about figuring the best way to utilize it .
I would love to see your eventual solution since things like this interest me .
Best of luck .
Do you have a Thinline ? They are known for neck diving .
For some perspective , my rosewood Tele weighs in at roughly 10 lbs and has great balance , but there are those that would refuse to put it on their shoulder because of it's weight .
Trade offs .
