Out of the 4 cars we own, 1 has a cassette player (92 Cherokee), 2 have CD players (03 Wrangler and 07 Grand Cherokee) and one has no CD player but too many USB connections to count (15 Cherokee). I don't know if the technology is still a bit too new to be as reliable or "user friendly" as sticking a CD into the slot but the 15 Cherokee occasionally auto connects with my wife's phone but sometimes just ignores it...
I play mix CD's in my Wrangler from time to time but, more often than not, I just put on the news. Most of my driving is around 30 minutes or less at a time so it's not too long a spell to not have music playing. Besides, Jeep Wranglers really aren't the quietest places to enjoy music anyway. Best, PJ

Unlimited data plans solve for this issue. I realize it costs a little more, but it's nice not to worry about running out of / over on data usage. Also, when we travel internationally, most places offer up free wifi, which helps.

As much as I still have and love 2 single speed bikes and acoustic guitar I'm well over the death of CDs and other technology. Google and Apple in your dashboard is the future if not the present for some. Better than getting rid of the CD player will be a car with more autonomous driving capability than the EyeSight our Subaru already has.

'Ask' for an artist or album name or song with the USB stick plugged in - and sometimes it'll choose from the USB stick, sometimes pull an unrelated artist from Pandora.

As a professional jazz musician, my G'pa had recorded his own organ music on vinyl. I was allowed to wind the Victrola to listen right away in his recording studio located in the dining room. Twenty years ago a friend put some on disks with scratches and all. That's what I still typically listen to in the car. My favorite tune is Whistler's dog, but I am still touched when I can hear him sing in his own words. I remember the time he slaughtered a tune the real world would call bicycle built for two, "Mary, Mary give me your answer true. Do you think that Barbie record player, will be loud as my speakers 5 x 2?" His neighbors knocked at the door. "Jim, those aren't the right words and for the sake of my windows and we can't hear TV turn that thing down!" Not that this is relevant to the subject at hand, but thanks for letting me spurt off for this special moment.

My brother just sent me his band's mixed recordings.
I replied thanks but my iMac 27" and my 2018 Equinox has left me CD player-less. Like many I have thousands of good but now sidelined CD's. I just heard newsprint is going up 33% - Tariffs. Please don't take my Times. Pretty soon we'll have computers in our acoustics that will do somethings I would only guess at. Horse & Buggy. Try to be lighthearted and not cynical. And my Reader's Digest! It's my quick read on airplanes and cold winter days when I want pleasant thoughts and no reason to turn the computer on.

I just sold my beloved '04 Honda Pilot to the guy down the road.
Heck, that had both a CD AND a cassette player in it. Best vehicle I ever owned, for those 2 and several other reasons.

Sure nice to know that after buying a brand new car for $25,000.00 all you will need is a $23. external accessory, from Amazon, to listen to your tunes. Wonder why the car companies never thought of this?

No, you have to buy a $23 accessory if you want to listen to tunes in a certain way. It has plenty of ways to play tunes, just not the one that you want to use. I'm still not sure what needs done with the wax cylinders that were brought up earlier!

And another thing....
Those blasted cd players were forever getting cd's stuck in them / not ejecting them. What's up with that? |
