Default Why No 700 Series 12 String Guitars?

I am just curious, but does anyone know why Taylor Guitars does not offer a 12 string in their 700 series? The other series from the 300 to the 900 series seem to offer 12 string guitars. Would appreciate any info.
Thanks

Ah yes...the elusive 12-stringed 700 series. Well, they had a 750 model before (a 12 string dreadnaught) but never a 755. Why? I have yet to get an answer. I've ALWAYS wanted to know why no 700 jumbos or 515's exist!!

Outside of the inlay and the white binding there isn't any difference twixt the 700 series and the 800 series. Cedar is probably too soft a wood for the pull of 12 strings (the 555 has a spruce top) so the 700 series 12 would probably have a spruce top - just like the 855. I bet if it could be done it, rosewood and cedar on a 12-string would sound wonderful though.

Seagull makes a 12-string with a solid cedar top (the S12) and it works very well. It could be that their braces are beefier than Taylor's, or maybe Seagull's dread shape has something to do with it, but I have an S12 and I have yet to see any structural problems with it.

Actually there is a difference beyond the decorations. The quality of the woods is higher on the 800s is higher than on the 700s. Taylor sorts their woods by quality and use the better pieces for the higher end models. For example, they sort their Indian rosewood into three categories with the very best being used on the 900 series, the next best on the 800 series and the remainder being used on the 700 series. The 700 series woods are of course still excellent quality, but the 800 series wood is even better.

There is another difference between the 700 and 800 series: Top woods. The 700s feature Engelmann spruce and the 800s feature sitka spruce. According to Taylor catalog copy from some year, the 800s are Taylor's classic "big and bold" guitars and the 700s are considered more intimate, personal guitars.

If Taylor made a 755, it would probably have englemann...which would make it a poor man's 955. SO WHY DOESN'T TAYLOR OFFER ONE?!!??!

I've always wanted to know why Taylor doesn't offer a k25c All Koa Jumbo si string or at least a k15 with spruce top. A 715 would be cool as well as a 755. Wonder what the deal is. Perhaps it's to make you buy the LKSM if you want a mahogony jumbo, and a 915 or 955 if you want a rosewood and E spruce jumbo.

Resurrecting this post- I own a 755 and have owned it since 1986. I just re discovered this amazing guitar.

I contacted Taylor and am awaiting a reply regarding the top wood - I say it's cedar, but my friend says it's a very well aged spruce...

I play it strung 6 and it sounds like a cross between the two woods...

There is little to no info on this guitar on the Internet.

Holy zombie thread. You do realize this thread is 17+ years old, right? The poster you replied to hasn't logged in here in almost 15 years.
