Debating On Selling My Gibson Electric For A Gibson Acoustic
I'm debating on selling my Gibson Robot SG, Heritage Cherry finish, in mint condition including original hardshell case, manual, charger and a second new battery I bought in case I ever needed a replacement...
I haven't searched for yet but I would use the money to purchase a used, mint Gibson J45 Acoustic. I believe it'd be about even in value/cost. I have a great sounding customized Epiphone Les Paul with all Gibson parts including USA Gibson 57 pickups already... this SG is rare and sweet but... I'm just thinking right now. Thoughts?

If it didn't have those robot tuners I'd be all over this! That's the exact SG model I've got gas for.
But I don't have a J45, and I'd think you might do better to sell the SG then buy the J45. Finding someone with a mint used J45 that wants a Gibson Robot SG Heritage Cherry finish are pretty slim. Good luck to you though!!!! |

I didn't mean to say I was looking to trade. If I do it I'm sure it would be selling then buying.

Not a fan of robot tuners or SGs, but I do like a J-45. I say do it.

I hate the robo-tuners but those SGs are still legit. An Epiphone is no substitute for a Gibson in my experience: close but no cigar.
I think a J-45 is a great guitar. Since I recently picked up acoustics again, I know a nice acoustic can be very inspiring.

The only thing about my Epiphone LP that's Epiphone is the logo on the headstock pretty much. I've had several people want to trade their Gibson LPs for it. Top of the line Gibson pots, switch, jack wired into split coils. A Gibson USA 57 on the neck and a Gibson USA 57+ at the bridge, TUSQ nut, locking Grover tuners and strap locks. It's sweet and I'm sure I'll be turning down offers in the future from Gibson LP owners

I traded a Les Paul for my J29 - glad I did it!
If you want to get a J45, go for it!

If I could trade your SG Special for a mint condition J-45, I would do it in a New York minute. Such a swap would definitely be in your favor, even if it if yours was a SG Standard. You can find used Gibson SG Standards under $1K all day long; used J-45s for that money - not so much. I like SGs and I like J-45s. It really boils down to which guitar you want and would use more.

Yes but are people buying them? Anyway, I sold all my electrics except my Copperburst Tele to subsidize new acoustics and haven't looked back. If you really want a J45 and this would speed up the process, go for it. I had four other electrics including an SG and I don't miss any of them. The Tele is a "just-in-case-I need-one electric. Sold my Deluxe Reverb Amp too. Kept my little Vox Pathfinder R for jammin' and stuff. From my experience and my aquaintances experiences, unless you are in a full-time rockband and/or you need that particular guitar, bid it a fond farewell and join the ranks of many happy acoustic players with great guitars.

You're not buying any Gibson J-45 anything in that range. See this Reverb ad for a guitar just like yours. https://reverb.com/item/1491047-gibs...al-robot-black
