What would you buy?

So in the sub $1,000 dollar range. How do Epiphone Masterbilt guitars stack up? I want something that is made from solid wood. I like that they have bone nuts, and saddles already installed, in addition to the grover machine heads. Plus they are also electric to boot. I love Gibson guitars but I can't afford them, nor could I justify doing so, even if I had the money to spend. (I have too many other ducks to get in a row) So with all that said, I suppose my real question is: are there other brands that offer this much bang for the buck, while also giving that Gibson-esque vibe. I'm particularly interested in the Epiphone AJ-45me which is a short scale J45-ish type thing. I would like to get something that that I can get attached to rather than being tempted to trade in a couple months. thanks!

I would take a serious look at either a Blueridge BG140 (mahogany) or BG160 (rosewood). They sound very Gibsonesque, are well built from all solid wood, and either one of them will run you around $700 without a case.

I love the look of the BlueRidge bg160. I could probably get into the sound of the rosewood as well. Im guessing the scale length is 25"?

A friend let me play on his Epiphone J-200 once, and I have to say, I was very impressed. For a < $400.00 guitar, it sounded easily as good as some $1000.00+ Martins and Taylors, and better than their low-end models. It played like hot butter. For the money, it would be hard to beat. I think they also come in an acoustic-electric version as well. I have also tested out the Epiphone J-160 John Lennon model, and was also impressed. And, the SST models are really nice, especially for the money.

but Alvarez is making some really nice guitars lately, check out the solid wood masterworks series, some can be had for under a $1000

Under a grand, you can sometimes find a nice used Taylor or Martin, but if you want a real eye opening and easy player, Look at a used RainSong* or Carbon Acoustic.

* A Used Rainsong at a Grand is a heck of a buy if you can find one.

I would recommend Blueridge. I've played them, they sound and look nice. I've been intrigued with them.

You may still be able to find a NOS Taylor DN3. They are under your $1k mark and a steal at that price.
