Default Alvarez goodness

I dropped by the local guitar shop today - hadn't been in for the last several months for understandable reasons. I didn't spend long but I did have a chance to play one of the Alvarez MD60BGs. Wow! What a cannon. I wish I needed or even had space for another guitar right now. I don't know if there's a better $599.00 deal out there. Great tone and it just vibrates right through your chest. I've been happy with the couple of Alvarez's I've had, but this one may be the best I've tried yet.

I'd had one but when it arrived FedEx had dropped the box butt side down and cracked the tail block. Sad...it is an amazing guitar. I agree...not a better deal on a $600 guitar anywhere IMHO.

I have the md60ebg (with LR Baggs pickup) and it is an incredible guitar at any price. I have played MANY guitars that cost 5x more that cannot compare. In fact, I own guitars that cost 5x more and they do not compare. That's just the way it is.

Today I was at GC in Atlanta and played an Alvarez parlor guitar that pretty much blew my mind. It was not the Masterworks model either. It was the AP66shb. Outstanding guitar for $359. I could not believe the volume, bass response, clarity and playability of that thing. I should have bought it on the spot. I will probably go back tomorrow and buy it for my son. It's amazing for its size. It's unbelievable for the price.

Alvarez guitars are great.

My MD60BG is my best sounding guitar hands down. They are really well done. Alvarez are a great value.

I am gassing for an MDA66SHB - the all solid hog dread. I don’t need it and have been resisting it for months.

The current Alvarez Masterworks guitars are indeed, stellar... at any price, let alone the $599 price tag!!!

Especially the dreadnought; I've been surprised and amazed by several of those at my local store, Bullfrog Music, here in Corvallis... I'm not even a "dreadnought guy", but I just loved those guitars...

Tremendous deals... the cases alone are worth another $150; they are very, VERY nice hardshell cases...

You folks can see how many Alvarez guitars I have, and they are just the cheaper models with the laminated back and sides.

The only thing is, as I have bored you folks with for so very long and I apologize, is that all but the lowest tier have the 1.75-inch nut widths which I have just determined is a tad too wide for me to play comfortably.

But I understand most other guitar makers use this as the "standard" width. That's one reason why I do like (although I have yet to even see one) Eastman which makes the "SS" series that feature the thinner nut width.

Mainly now I've been trying to find some of the older Alvarez models, especially in the Masterwork series, that have a thinner nut width. But I agree they are fine guitars overall.

See list below.
In 25 years I’ve had 26 guitars.
Ten have been Alvarez guitars.
Y’all need to stop talking about them before you drive up the prices. 😉

True!! I've owned my Alvarez Yairi Conquistador for over 40 years and it still occasionally steals the fire. These are wonderful guitars.

There are some fantastic guitars being built these days.
Alvarez is among them.
I am also impressed with Eastman, Yamaha and the import Guilds which I would put into the same class as Alvarez.
