yes, of the "want me sound" store channel. Joil has a really great touch, can get a lot out of these instruments. he had an interesting video talking about his favorite pick, how grip affects tone.
I think the Iris sounds great. very distinctive. Dont know if I would get a cedar, I would need to try it though.

More open sounding than any Martin OM or 000 I've owned. Also I'm mostly using a flatpick.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't describe the tone of Iris as boxy in any of their guitars. I think they are really wide open. My Smeck is super loud and wide ranging frequency wide. It is wonderful but kind of a catch 22 as it doesn't really bury any unwanted frequencies and thus makes it a little less versatile. It's also a 12 fret though and I expected that from this particular guitar.

A little off topic WVBlues, but is there a particular string you found that works well on your Smeck?

Right now I have daddario bluegrass mediums on it but I am still going through strings. I have daddario xs mediums on my prewar and they are really good on that guitar so I might try them on the Iris also. I have a couple sets of santa cruz strings and some others on the way I'll be trying out but so far it's been daddario for me and has been for awhile.

I like the tone when he plays softly. It sounds a little boxy when he pushes it, which might be desirable for some, but not my preference.

I've watched a lot of videos of him playing a myriad of guitars and yes, he is a fantastic player. What always impresses me is his ability to identify and exploit the characteristics if each individual guitar. In this case, the woody, fundamental tone of the guitar and NB string combination is utilized to it's fullest by his playing approach.

I have been intrigued by these Iris guitars - I think they look great and they seem to tick my boxes in the tone department. Maybe one of these days I will run into one in the wild and can give it a go.

The guitar would sound even better if the mics were closer, and there was less room honk in the recording.
