Default Continuing on...

...with the endgraft, binding, and purfling.

Here we finally see the Arum soundport finally come into the picture--you can begin to see how challenging it must be to tie all of these curves and planes into submission! No worries with Master Wilborn at the helm--in his words:

"This is hard, but a lot of fun."

And check out the repurposed dental light and light saber he's using!

That's all for now--have a great weekend!

"Lights out beautiful"!!! Geeezzz that Coco is gorgeous! I can really attest to the Redwood/Cocobolo (in my case LS) combo....especially the trebles......no other guitar I own can bring the fullness and "glassy-ness" I get from this combo.
Did I mention that Coco is beautiful?

Thanks IG--I'm really looking forward to hearing what this combo has to offer with this new model of Ben's. Glad to get some reassurance from you that it works in a wonderful way.

And yes, I believe you mentioned it--and I wholeheartedly concur! Thanks for checking it out.

Default Binding and purfling continued...

Ben hit it again hard on Saturday as the exacting detail work continues...

Ben makes all his own purfling and binding--I don't know how these luthiers cut them so narrow and fine with such precision.

This binding procedure around the soundport looks to be very challenging...

In this next picture you can see a new design element that Ben has added since the initial Nautilus model. The binding on the inside of the soundport is widened as it goes around to match the arm bevel on the lower bout--kind of a reverse mirror image. Really should look cool upon completion--a great design touch by Ben!

Trying to execute all of these exacting miters would put me over the edge!

And in this last shot, "The aftermath of hurricane Ben"!

Until next time, Cheers!

Hey Stan--it is a cool design indeed.

Won't be long now and it'll be debuting at BIG(er)!

@Nemoman, wow! Going to be an absolute gem! I think Ben put's addictive pixie dust inside his guitars and we new owners shortly thereafter start craving Wilborn #2. Plus, he's a joy to work with.

Not so many months ago I purchased a Lion he dubbed, "The Reverse Lion." It is gorgeous in all respects (tone, playability, aesthetics and build execution). I am slightly more comfortable with single oh and I am noodling adding a Bantam and have been discussing possibly doing a Bantam-sized version of the Arum.

I would need to make room for it, so I am thinking about which of my other children to put up for adoption. Oh, some guitars will need to go, too.

So, I will be following this closely. Very closely!

Default Very educational!

Beyond the guitar drooling aspect, thanks for taking us along on this journey.

It's a treat to see such an innovative model unfold day after day... And I am sure it will trigger a lot of interest among the AGF community - I expect this model to be a hit. I am quite tempted to put an order myself.

Cheers,

Gents, that tear drop sound hole/port is over the top! What a great look. I'm liking the whole look, though. Cool guitar.

You're still cool in my book, Tom! Thanks for letting me go first--and hey, you're gonna have a beautiful Nautilus coming soon that might darn near be as stunning as this!

Hey Eddie--thanks! I actually got to play your Lion in Ben's shop just before it was shipped out to you. That is a very cool guitar--super easy to play and warm mellow tone! congrats on that Reversi!

Ben is so fun to work with--so you know what it's like and how addictive it is to to want to add another Wilborn to the stable. Hopefully, having this Arum will stave off future yearnings for awhile. A Nautilized Bantan, eh? I look forward to seeing it come to fruition here if and when it does!

Thanks for commenting and following along.

Thanks for following along, guys.

Ben has really developed a wonderful new guitar here, and it's been awesome to share it see it unfold here. It's like Christmas has come early every day when I check my inbox and find new pics from Wilborn Guitars!
