Default Value of a Martin 000-28 Modern deluxe with crack

I am looking at 2020 Martin 000-28 modern deluxe with an LR baggs anthem. It has a minor repaired crack on the side of the guitar. The crack is with the grain and has been repaired. What would this guitar be worth with the repair? How much does devalue the guitar? If guitar is worth around $3400 with no repair. For the right price should I be concern with a repair?

You have that much to spend? Walk on by the one with a crack.

I guess I should have explained it better… I found one for $2500 with a fixed crack. It looks mint otherwise. I felt it was a very good price.

What caused the crack in the side? If it was because it was under humidified there may be other problems with it that may show up later. If I was insure I would have someone look at it that knew more about these things than me and get their opinion before I bought it. Just too many unknowns for me to say whether it's a good deal or not.

Life is too short to buy a cracked two-year-old guitar.

Sorry, I can hear how opinionated that sounds. I’m sure you’ll do what’s best for you. Good luck!

I would see if they will let you take it to a luthier before you buy it. They can tell you whether this is a easily repaired crack or something more serious.

A minor crack on the side shouldn't impact the sound. If it's a good repair and you can get it for more than $1k below retail then you might have a good find!

If you decide to pass, please post a link so we can take a look. The 000-28 is one of my favorites.

Crack is only visible with flashlight. It’s local so $2500 is out the door. Guitar sounds great too. No other ding can be found on guitar.

It's not a crack, it's character.

I respect everyone’s opinion. Just seems like a good deal to save almost 1k from a normal used one and 2k from a brand new one.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I'd be fine with it. You'd save ~$2k and wouldn't be as nervous about it as it's already been dinged/banged up.

I'm a huge fan of the Modern Deluxe line. I think of my 000-28MD as a mix between a Martin and a Goodall.

A minimally visible repaired side crack on a guitar that is appropriately priced for it would not deter me. More often I find that folks don't accurately devalue a (modern) guitar for repaired cracks.

$2500 out the door for a local 000-28MD that you can play and inspect with a well repaired side crack is something I would not think twice about if I could play it first and I loved the guitar.

A lot of folks get really worried about cracks, but they are very rarely significant structural issues, particularly side cracks. I own lots of vintage guitars with multiple cracks and all are structurally sound. Getting into vintage gear has really broken any fear I had about repaired cracks.

Very good point on not being nervous on putting the first scratch! Plus a good chunk of savings.

I actually have never bought vintage guitars but I am sure buying vintage guitars is a totally different game with cracks and wear and tear.
