Default What are some good bang for the buck electric guitars under a grand?

I left the electric scene light years ago but I've been jamming on my old old broken yahama pacifica and its quite fun and refreshing.

What do you guys got for me?

Dean EVO, Dean "Hardtail," pretty much anything in the Samick "Greg Bennett" series. The Micheal Kelly guitars are a cut below but ever so slightly - still great for the money.

I'll mention these because they're going to get mentioned anyway: Fender MIM Strat and MIM Telecaster. You can get a Highway 1 Strat in your price range, and at the absolute top of your range would be the MIA "Standard" Stratocaster and Telecaster.

However, IMO, when you look at how much guitar you're getting for how much money, I'd say you can't beat the Deans. An EVO Special gets you two humbuckers with coil-tapping (no need to replace those with better pups like you would with an MIM tele), you get a real "flame maple" top, and I can recommend this without hearing "Thanks Matt. I can either buy the guitar or make my house payment, but I can't do both."

Really like my Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster, sunburst satin finish lets her sing... the sustain is to die for.

Well under a grand on Ebay.

for that money you can get a new usa strat or tele. just keep your eyes peeled and the deal will be there. id shy away from any of those "entry level" gibsons. they tend to be thrown together by the new-hires at the factory or by the guys who just got their layoff slips. most of the "faded" models or any of those other cheapos they offer have been similar to the stuff you flush.

Schecter makes a great guitar under the price range you are looking for. Check out "The Guitar Guys" in Heath, OH near Newark, about 20 miles East of Columbus. They carry some of the best looking ones I have seen. Ask for Joe Joyce and he'll treat you right. P.S.- Play the T-5 while you are there! That's where I buy my guitars!

prs has the 'se' line made in korea. i got the 'se eg' model and just love it. of course i'm the most casual of electric players so my opinion might not count for much.

i paid well under half your budget for mine and i posted a link a few weeks ago where musicians friend had them onsale for just a few hundred bucks. not sure if they have any left at that price or not.

when i bought mine i compared models up to $1k but found for less than half that it was all the guitar i needed.

good luck,

/guy

Doesn't PRS make a below 1K version, too?

Worry less about the guitars you want. Play the guitar you have more.
The answer will come, and it will not be what you expect.

A guitar is a tool, and a friend. But it is not the answer.

It is the beginning.

You can get a Godin Solidac for well within that budget,.... quality components, reputable manufacturer, Humbucker/Single/Humbucker + piezo, tremolo, very versatile....

http://www.godinguitars.com/godinsolidacp.htm

I own one ( not for sale )---I don't recommend the black finish ( looks cool when its clean but it stays that way for 30 seconds--- shows every fingerprint )

you mean an american made one? i'm not sure. dean makes a couple of american hardtails though for under $1k that i considered. i was sort of limiting my search to shortscale models and that meant prs, dean and les paul mostly.

G and L Legacy - you can buy a SWEET one for under a grand if you go used. I have a flame top with blueburst finish, flame maple binding - the Fender strat cats who play this can't believe what little I paid for it.

Well, it's hard to beat a Fender Stratocaster, even the ones made in Mexico...the JV Strat has got to be one of the most underrated Strats EVER.
Schecter sells the C1 Classic; and for a neck-through, Seymour Duncan pickups, and a Tone-Pros bridge, I wonder why more people haven't bought one of these guitars yet.
The PRS SE guitars also look like good buys. I personally like their EG model.
