Default "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg (cover)

https://youtu.be/QiGOGysXH9s

Today is my wife and my 52nd wedding anniversary. So, I wanted to do a song that had meaning for both of us. Decades ago we sang at dozens of wedding ceremonies every year and "Longer" was a song we sang many, many times. I think this is one of Dan Fogelberg's best songs.

The main guitar, my Olson SJ, sounds like it has a huge chorus effect on it because I actually played the same guitar part a 2nd time and panned one guitar recording full left and the other full right in the stereo image. This is similar to the original Dan Fogelberg recording. The guitar is in open G tuning.

For the solo string parts at the song introduction and for the French horn solo, I used my Gerald Sheppard GA guitar to play these parts. The Sheppard is in standard tuning.

And I sang the harmony parts my wife usually sang in our younger days, so that was a challenge as the parts get pretty high.

Thank you for watching! I hope all is well for you, wherever you are!

- Glenn

Such a fine rendition, Glenn. I like the open G tuning,, very effective,, and your high harmony is just excellent. Have a great day!

Outstanding Glenn. Really classy, all round musicianship, singing and arranging.

And technical/post ability too.

Thank you Chuck!

I appreciate your listening and taking time to comment!

Yes, that high harmony stuff was a challenge. It took a while to get my voice to the point where I could hit those notes. At one point there is a long, high B note in the harmony. Sheesh!!

Thank you Chuck!

Thank you Coler!

Much appreciated! I'm glad you felt this came out well!

I had arthroscopic knee surgery about a week ago. I knew that was coming up, so I got most of the work on recording this song done before the surgery.

The last thing I did on this recording, after the surgery, was to add the solo guitar parts using the Sheppard guitar. This was done a week after the knee surgery. I normally play the guitar with it on my right knee, but it was my right knee that had the surgery. I tried that and ... No, no nooooooo! So you'll notice that I played the solo parts on the Sheppard with the guitar on my left knee, like a classical player.

It felt weird to do that, but it was the only way I could play the guitar! Ironically, my wife liked it because she could see more of the guitar in the video. Who knew? .........

Be well Coler! And thank you!

- Glenn

I see - I assumed that you deliberately adopted the classical style for that part. Happy anniversary and heal well Glenn.

Great rendition, Glenn. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. I’ve loved DF’s music for many years and it’s always good to hear a fine rendition of such a classic as “Longer” indeed is.

Being a fan of the Kentucky thoroughbred area, one of my DF favorites is “Run For The Roses” , a song he was commissioned to write for the Kentucky Derby. I play and sing it regularly.

I hope your healing process is fast and that you achieve the desired outcome from the surgery. And, happy anniversary to you and Mrs. Willow.

Best to you, Glenn,
Roger
