Default Recommended effects pedals

What would be the best first 2 or 3 effects pedals to purchase when starting to buid a pedal board?

I am just getting started with pedals and kinda asked myself the same question.

There is a youtube channel specifically about pedals (don't remember its name right now)

It probably depends on if your trying to emulate a specific tone of just want to be able to make some different sounds .

But general I decided since I had reverb and tremolo on my amp which can be foot switched I got a two switch on, off, passive pedal and then I wanted a delay and a mild boost.
And because I am learning leads I also got a looper pedal .

I'd recommend a good overdrive pedal.

What kind of music do you play? That may help drive this further. For example, if you play a lot of U2 you would want a delay pedal.

If I could only have two pedals this is what I would have.

For a third pedal, I'd go for a looper.

This is what I have but I only really need the above two for a great sound.

Depends on everything, but I like "organic" sounds, and my set could be reduced to this :

- an overdrive
- a delay (if you can find a boss DD-20 used, it is one of the best and most reliable delay I've played)
- either a clean boost / a volume pedal for swells (before delay !) / a reverb / a wah

With a 10 to 15w tube amp on the edge of break-up.

Listen to "Speaking is Silver". Electric guitar have been recorded with just a tube screamer, delay, reverb and volume pedal. Lots of textures available !

Compressor/Sustainer, reverb (unless your amp has it onboard), and delay. Many delay pedals have a modulation setting which can give chorus-like tones. With many amps having two or more channels, and the style of music I play, I cannot see the need for a distortion pedal, although I do have one on my board (which is often run direct into a P.A. rather than an amp). Knowing the amp and style of music you play would help give you better feedback, but a compressor is a must in my book.

IT depends on your amp and of course what style of music you want to play. Way back when I started playing I chose a clean platform and went with a Fender Twin amp so that I could then buy pedals for my sound. But I have other amps for example like my Mesa that needs no overdrive since the amps own over drive is about as good as it gets. Both also have reverb.

So if you are starting clean then I would suggest an overdrive, delay and compressor. Those pedals will get you through many styles.

Like said before, it really depends on what kind of music and gear you have. I think a tuner, overdrive, Reverb, compressor/sustainer and delay are a must in any pedal board. Then depending on what tone you're pursuing, you can go with flanger/chorus/phaser or whatever you fancy.

Depends. I prefer not to have lots of pedals. Maybe none, depending on amp...
- Tuner
- Overdrive
- Boost
- Delay
- Compressor

I confess I don't have a pedalboard. But if I was going to go that route, I know someone who uses the Boss ME70 as a pedalboard, switching on and off the idividual effects instead of using the programming features. It sounds really nice!

My choices, in order (of purchase, not signal chain) tuner, overdrive/distortion, delay, compressor, reverb, wah, volume.

I have a Boss GT-6 which is kinda the older model of the ME70 and it's tons of fun. The amp models are a bit thin sounding, but the effects are awesome. Great for practicing and even to gig if you don't want to bring your gear and just hook the thing straight to the house PA.
