D'Addario EXL 110W is what I tend to use if I want a wound G string on a Tele or strat.

If you're playing old-school country/R-&-R/R-&-B/blues/Americana try a set of flats, preferably something toward the heavier side (think 11's/12's): captures the richer side of Tele tone that you hear on those '50s recordings, allows you to drop the action far lower than with roundwounds (something those jazzers and rockabilly cats all knew back in the day BTW) and, with the through-body bridge, gets some body resonance going (just make sure your neck bolts are as tight as possible without stripping) - bought one of the first late-CBS '52 RI models in '82 and set it up with flatwound 12's, and it was absolute vintage magic through a blackface Fender or blue-check Ampeg...

I have two tele's that wear sets with a wound 3rd -
one has Rotosound Top Tapes (flatwound) this one is a 2007 ash FSR and has Rose vintage style pickups both A2 and the other Stringjoy Broadways (roundwound) this one is a stock 60's Baja |

I use sets with wound 3rds on most of my electrics, some 10’s, some 11’s. D’Addarios. Back for the first nearly ten years I played (began in the mid 50’s) all sets came with wound thirds and I still like them. Sound better and intonate better. I am in my mid 70’s and have no trouble bending them.
