Default OMVDAT - Carl Miner

In my efforts to get better at using a pick, I'm learning a few of Carl Miner's tunes from his (many/excellent) guitar demos on YT. This is my attempt at what he played on a Bourgeois OM Vintage:

Nice job Tom! Sounds very good!

I remember hearing Carl Miner play that song while demonstrating a Collings dreadnought with red spruce top and BRW back and sides. Every time I hear Carl Miner play I sort of melt just a little, kind of like the Wicked Witch of the West at the end of the Wizard of Oz, but I don't melt nearly as much.

He is certainly a great player to learn from! Good for you!

Thanks Glenn. I'm the same, even when Carl plays something that isn't to my musical taste I can't help but marvel at how well he does everything.

Thanks George - I'm getting used to a thicker pick and really like the sound it makes.

Very well done! Did you figure this out on your own or find the music/tab somewhere? I ask because this one would be at a good level for me to work on too.

And yes, I melt a little also when I watch/hear Carl Miner and his spectacular flat picking on world class guitars.

Thanks Steve! I'm afraid I learned this one straight from Youtube; there's no tab that I know of. I might do a simple tab/score for it, just as a memory-aid. By 'simple' I mean I'd put all the notes in the right time, but not bother getting the note duration right (as there's load of open string notes that ring on, but I suck at tabbing and those notes slow me down 3x).

I'm sure that took a while to work out. At least it did me. I fell in love with that CM riff when I heard it too. I'm still not finished working it all out, or getting it up to speed. You beat me to it. Good job.

There's about a dozen more of his demo tunes that have captured my attention. I'll be working my way through them for the next few months at least.

Great job, really nice pick tone. This tune really reminds me of whiskey lullaby by Jon Randall (my favourite country vocalist and picker)

Thanks Wrighty! Just checked out Jon Randall too - great guitar playing to accompany sad songs!

He’s my favourite country singer and has sung some amazing stuff. Check out Dairy Queen live at the Bluebird cafe.
