Room treatment check
Hi All,
I've received my Behringer C-2 mics and believe I've reached my bare minimum from an equipment standpoint to continue my recording journey. I'm going to put some time into learning the FX etc..., but in the mean time I'm back to focusing on room treatment. Below is a recording with my Behringer C-2 mics focused on guitar, and a Shure SM 58 for vocals. I panned the guitar mics L and R, but other than that no FX. I have 4 sound panels (2ft x 4ft), 2 about 5 ft in front and 2 about 3 ft in back. When I did a 'treatment check' before - someone replied 'I still hear a lot of room in the recording'. I'm still training my ears. If you all listen to this, do you hear a lot of room noise in the recording? If focused more on treatment - would you recommend more panels, bass traps... just playing with my configuration? Other suggestions?

The room comment is odd. There's just enough early reflections in the guitar track so sound focused and solid. I wouldn't want any less. Taking the room out entirely isn't a good thing, most of the time. It sounds unnatural. Something I've seen online is that, sometimes, people who are just learning about acoustic treatment think you're supposed to deaden everything. So, you may have got bad advice. For a lot of us, the longer you do this, the more you end up wanting to hear the room.
I think you did a good job. Keep experimenting and finding what you like. |

Thanks Bowie, appreciate the listen and input. Still trying to get my recording legs under me and seasoned input is a huge asset.

Sound is somewhat boxy (closed in). Probably more of mike position issue than anything else. If anything I don't hear enough space in the recording.
Try moving the sound panels further away.

Thank you - I've got a little more room to move the panels back and will give that a try... see if i can pick up a difference on the recordings.
