Thinline electro acoustic
I'm looking for a thin body acoustic with a comfortable, electro-like neck. A good amplified sound is a must, but I also want an usuable/enjoyable acoustic sound for home practice. Would be the Yamaha APX-1200II or the Takamine TSP138C the better choice? Are there preferable alternatives to these two? My budget is USD 1.700 max. I'm quite new to the fascinating world of acoustic guitars, so your opinions and advice are very much appreciated.

Most of the advice you will get is to play them. Find which one feels the best. For plugged in sound the Takamine will be tough to beat.

Godin A6 or A6 Ultra, Taylor T5 or T5Z, or Crafters SA ( if you can find one). Also look for a Gibson/Epiphone Chet Atkins model. There are others out there but these are the usual suspects. All provide what you are asking for.

I've played a few Godins, and used to own a Godin acoustibass (I believe it was called) fretless that was very, very nice. One thing to keep in mind though is some of these thinline models have weird balance points, one way or the other.
Worth investigating before buying IME.

Do check out the Fender Acoustisonic series. They are getting a lot of good press from some top-tier players.

Yup, Fender Acoustasonic. I played with a guy on the Fourth of July who had one. Through a Loudbox Mini, it gave all the plugged-in acoustic tone you could ask for.

Ditto on the Crafter SA. Hard to find used so glad I picked one up almost 4 years ago. Think I'll get it out tonight, its been a while. Mine is actually SA-TMVS. I wouldn't consider this for acoustic if your expecting to play that way performing however.

Thanks for your valuable answers!
What would be the best choice if I place particular emphasis on a pleasant and usuable unplugged sound? I practice a lot at night and I don't really like using headphones all the time. |

Look for a Kiesel / Carvin - usually very affordable relative to your budget. I've had a couple and they were super great. One was more of an acoustic trying to be an electric, the other was an electric trying to be an acoustic. Both worked, but the subtle spec differences were worth noting - mainly necks and controls. They are pretty rad and super comfy to play.

After an exhaustive search I finally bought a Carvin SH575 to do what you want. Why? It has two humbuckers which are great for electric. It has an electric guitar easy neck. AND it has a piezo bridge for the acoustic guitar tones and for an onboard Synth connection which uses the same bridge. I just got it so still trying it on for what it can do. But I can tell you that through my Bose S1 with a Fishman preamp it sounds like a good acoustic with the push of a button. Then it has full eq for the piezo as well as for the electric. Its also a beautiful guitar.
That being said, I almost went with Godin which might also be a great choice. |

Which of these two models gives the better sound when played unamplified: Godin A6 Ultra or Godin Acousticaster (2019)?

They play like electrics!
Ovation invented the electro-acoustic guitar, and given the body dimensions the super shallow bowl models are acoustically louder than you would expect...

+1 for the Taylor T5
I have a Taylor T5X, it's about 10 years old and I love it. Sounds great unamplified although not loud, which is a plus at times (couch play while the wife watches TV). It feels like an electric and when plugged in I can get everything from Acoustic to Rocker to Jazz box to Blues.
