I caught the Gas......Bad...
So it all began with a trip to my local guitar center just to kill some time... There is a Gibson J-45 standard there that I've been wanting for a long time now. Every time I drop in, it's there teasing me. But today that Isn't what I'm writing about. Today while i was there I noticed a solid top Epiphone EJ-200ce. Its a used instrument that includes a case with an extremely reasonable price tag of just over 300 dollars for everything. I played it acousticly at first, and i thought it had a very well balanced sound for a less expensive guitar. I noticed that it comes with grover tuners which suprised me to see in this price range. I was doing well to fight off the urge to buy it until i plugged it in to check out the electronics, thats really what hooked me. It made me start thinking that I could probably use the added versatility of an acoustic electric, and that the e-sonic2 preamp with the nano flex and nano mag pickups are a great setup especially for that money. but sadly enough this guitar isn't in my budget right now, and I know it wont hang around long. So how do you guys get over the gas when it strikes? I've wanted a jumbo for a long time, and it's got me thinking about using my credit card...haha

Sorry, theres no cure, darn credit cards and paypal anyway. Whats worse is my gas gets more expensive. I played a sweet d 18 a few months ago and been gassing ever since, its inevitable, but I will responsibly go into debt

GAS is bad. Taylor GAS seems to be even worse. 4 new Taylors in a little over 2 months (haven't added the most recent to my signature just yet). But, the good news is, I'm cured (for this year)

This won't help at all. I've got that guitar and enjoy it as much as any Gibson or Martin I ever had. Great little guitar.

The rest of the apparent GAS affliction really had some logic behind it. No, seriously! The 516e was the 1st Taylor purchase. Needed something of comparable ilk to my Gibson. Can't justify an 800 or 900 series, but the 516e custom has everything I wanted plus the beveled arm rest. I can do without all of the extra bling. The GS body shape and tonewood (spruce/Tasmanian blackwood) combo gives me everything I could ever want. The GM mini was bought strictly for travel needs and 15 minute couch sessions. The 214 is a replacement for my oldest Yamaha which my son wants to have. I had actually thought of thinning the herd by donating my old Yamaha classical, but still pick it up every now and then, and it sounds too good to let it go. Someday, I suspect I'll play the newer Yamaha CGX more and the old one will get donated to the high school music program or to my son-in-law who teaches guitar lessons.

Do yourself a favor and just spring for the J45. I'm telling you this from a guy who spent years buying low-end acoustics and trying to scratch that itch. Once I got my J45 Standard, I still have the rare desire for something else, but have no real need or urge to buy anything else. It's actually SAVED me money because of not buying anything else since!

You can get rid of GAS for a long time by buying the most beautifully sounding guitar in the world. It might cost many thousands of dollars but then every other guitar will sound like a toy and you won't have money anyway, so.. No problem.
