Default Coin Collector Question

My wife found some coins in pocket change she believes might have some value. What online resources might we explore before heading to a coin shop? Thanks.

I'll be watching this - I have a few dozen coins from before WWI that my gramps collected after being stationed on the Euro front lines.

Right off the top, if they are circulated to the point that they end up in your pocket, even rare coins lose their value quickly. There are many online sources, just put in a google search the year, the coin and ask the value.
