Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster I got around 2000, the year. The price back then was around $1200-$1400, I believe. The V neck on that guitar changed my life, and I mean literally changed my life. I could play so many more hours because of that neck. I moved to Austin, TX for awhile because of that guitar. I met new friends because of that guitar. And my ears now constantly ring because of that guitar. Haha.

Very easy for me based on best guitar for the money. My 1959 Guild archtop. Given to me four or five years ago by a buddy who had had it since the mid 60's. Doesn't get better than free.

Maybe even my BEST sounding/playing guitar...
My Tacoma EAR51-C small jumbo. Picked it up as the only bidder on eBay several years ago for $699. Originally $2500 new, it has beautiful solid Adirondack Spruce, solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides, with lovely Koa neck and body binding. Just a knockout of a guitar. Plays like an elegant dream. She has some small nicks and scrapes and the usual tiny spots of de-lamination that are common on Tacoma glossy guitars, but I would never, ever consider letting it go.
I have several other Tacoma solid wood parlors which were also very reasonably priced as used guitars that I play a lot.

2008 Martin D-28 Marquis
Bought it used. Has buckle rash on the back but you need to hold it just so in the light to even see it. Otherwise in perfect condition. Spent $3,199 on line for it. It exceeds all expectations. Just wow! I especially like the modified V neck.

A Breedlove American series C25/cre-h. Got it brand new for an even trade with my 1975 Martin D-28. Never had an ounce of regret. Sold it as I moved up in the Breedlove line, but it was a sweet guitar for the price they were going for at the time (around $1,700).

Boy, thats a hard question. Based on price/performance it is kind of a tie for me with two guitars I have.
I bought a Seagull S6 Slim Sunburst GT that was selling for $550.00 new at the time, for $225.00. Somebody dinged it and put a 1.75" crack in the top right where the brace ends. The dealer had his tech repair it. There is some visual evidence of the repair but it is not real noticeable. Otherwise, the guitar was new. It is a nice looking git ( Gibson J45-like.) It plays and sounds great. The other, a Guild Westerly OM 150. Solid rosewood/spruce. Very fine build quality and materials. It just keeps getting better sounding. It definitely has its own sound- not Martin, Gibson or Taylor- like. An excellent sound. Small finish blem. It took me some time to find it. Not at all easily noticeable. Blem price... $500.00. Perfect price, $1000.00. I compare it to guitars regarded as top notch and costing much more, at a once a month gathering I attend. It does just fine. The player? Maybe not so much. Lol. [emoji4] |

This thread has covered some years. I would say a Martin M-38 that I bought new in early 1992 for $1,800. 12 years later after having some shoulder issues I sold the guitar for $2,400. It was in excellent condition and had great balanced tone.
I also paid $3,400 in 2003 for a used Wingert 00. That guitar has a long list of prospective buyers should I ever decide to sell. Spectacular guitar for the money. Best, Jayne |
