Default NBD -- Deering Goodtime Open Back

New banjo day! Picked up a gently used Deering Goodtime Open Back last night. Starting on Dan Levenson's book. I've always wanted to learn clawhammer. Very impressed with the Deering. Seems to be a very well made starter banjo.

I agree ... as someone who has dabbled with Banjo for years, owned a mid-level Banjo with tone ring and back for a few and most recently own a Deering Goodtime open back, I can say that I enjoy the Deering most of all ... it has surprisingly good tone and volume for an open back, is light and has a great feel/playability ...

Enjoy!

I've read nothing but accolades for the Deering Goodtime banjo, and US made too. Congrats and Enjoy!

Excellent choice! My son bought me a banjo for Christmas and I'm having a BALL with it! You will, too!

I have the Goodtime 2, which is the same banjo but with a resonator. I have owned higher cost banjos but I love this one more than any other. Light, easy to play, and great tone. Great choice!

Congratulations, actaylor!

I have just taken up the clawhammer banjo a few months ago and am having so much fun. Enjoy exploring the music to be made on this great instrument. I have heard nothing but good things about the Deering Goodtime.

Best,
Jayne

I've been seriously considering the 17 fret tenor. I've got a '20's Slingerland and something new would be nice.

I hear you. I have a vintage p'mico 19 fret with mots fingerboard. I like the plain look of the goodtime series, and something light weight and open back would really do it for me. Plust modern frets and tuners, etc, etc,
