Hi friends,
The SA has sold. The Centaur is still available. Many thanks, everyone. Jenn |

Typical for me, I'd thought I had a good deal on an SA last September at $100 off and no interest/no payments for a year. If only I'd waited for Jenn. But I'm still interested in a BA, too.

Until another pretty face comes along.....
I can imagine Ultrasound and Schertler engineers are working the issue. Not to mention Behringer ..

The Behringer copy should be a steal.

Just a new avenue for thought and please take it with a grain of salt as I submit it with good intentions
The entire thread is a discussion that seems to want to lead to a conclusion that making the right "purchase" choice is the definitive road to a great sounding acoustic guitar amp/PA. As if by making the right choice based on specs and speculation great tone "will be had". There simply is NO plug and play miracle. It's never happened and it never will. An unbelievable guitarist with great ears and patience is gonna make his/her BagAmp, SoloAmp, Bose, QSC or Pignose sound vastly better than a struggling weekend warrior with his/her BagAmp, SoloAmp, Bose, QSC or Pignose. The real work for me begins after I have a basic rig in place. Doesn't much matter what it is as long as it's of substantial capabilities. I am DEAD positive that sooner or later I'm gonna make my rig, be it Bose, SoloAmp, BagAmp or OSC, sound the way I want it to sound. It always takes some time. It takes time to learn eq points. It takes time to understand just exactly where and how much reverb works and when. It takes time to learn the best monitoring spot. It takes time to learn what frequencies are feeding back and if they're fundamental to the guitar or not. It takes time and patience to understand the rig well enough to speculate what it's gonna do in different rooms and for me it takes time to understand how my guitar "sits" with my duo partners guitar sound and vocal. Decisions must be made as to weather compression is warranted or not. If an outboard verb or delay is more appropriate than onboard. Or if the rig sounds best with nothing but a straight guitar. Once I conquer all of the issues that present themselves I concentrate on consistency. That is understanding why it sounded different in club A than it did in club B. I usually get a handle on a rig in 6 or 8 months. That is to say there is a magical point where I've reached some synergy with the amp and problems seemed to have disappeared. Still in all it takes a LOT of time. I'm pretty sure some here wouldn't invest that much time in their rigs because they're conditioned to chase the Holy Grail with purchases. That said I too am a gear hound but thankful the years have tempered that madness. All great engineers (be it live or studio) and all great guitar players get great tone by working hard and learning and failing and working hard again and patience and understanding and circling around yet again. My 2 cents and YMMV Last edited by Joseph Hanna; 01-03-2010 at 04:08 PM. |

Excellent points. I took my SoloAmp out for the third time last night. The first two nights (in the same venue, same room, etc.) were fantastic - my guitar sounded just the way I wanted it, with no tweaking whatsoever....
Last night, for some reason, my guitar sounded bassy - and I spent all evening trying to solve it without introducing harshness, really fighting the guitar. I have no idea what contributed to the difference, and am sure it can be solved, but I do think that as the technology gets better, it becomes much more a decision between features rather than basic sound.. Someone once said that it is impossible to buy a (bad) new motorcycle these days; they have all been over-engineered to the impossible (well, ok, maybe the Buell, but even that has gotten better....:-) Of course, in the motorcycle case, user error is much more critical.......

Well, depending on who you talk to, so were Either/Or or Both/And the SoloAmp and the BagAmp....
