Mackie Onyx / Blackjack $130 new

It does what I need it to do and has controls on an angled top surface so I don't have to stand on my head to see them!

I use 2 Recording Interfaces (They can connect directly or record to an SD card):

Sound Devices MixPre 3M - no longer available - replaced by MixPre 3 II (Floating point 32-bit, like the Zoom F6) $680 + $99 (for the Musician plug-in)

Zoom H5 - still available - $280

On the work DAW, D/A and A/D for the money channels is an Apogee Rosetta 800 and the rest of D/A and A/D is handled by a Yamaha DM2000 console. Both of those communicate to the DAW via AES and a sixteen channel Lynx AES card.

I put together a second DAW package to take my audio-post-for-video-and-film work home and spec'd a Focusrite Scarlette 212 Gen 3 interface ($169) for that package. It works well and sounds quite nice. When the plague descended the company had just installed about eight of these in editing suites and eveyone loved them so I benefited from their experience. That may have been the easiest installation I've ever done. It seamlessly interfaces with the Neundo DAW software.

A third system in my room uses a UAD Apollo Twin interface ($899). It does well and sounds great. It interfaces with both Sound Forge and Cakewalk because two different divisions in the company are using those different programs.

Default Two MUSTS

Aloha jim1960,

The Apogee Duet2 ($695) & RME Babyface ($795) should be added to the "Interface" list. They are the most popular QUALITY two-channel interfaces on the market because they are portable, the price is smaller, they're better-made & the sound quality is pristine. They are BY FAR much better choices than the C$#P entry-level stuff from Focussrite or Presonus. And better onboard preamps than the Audient ID44 ($695).

Moving up, the Metric Halo ULN-2 ($1600) is a great choice.

For many years, also owned an Apogee Ensemble.
