Very nice. I’m a big fan of white oak, especially in Arts and Crafts furniture.

i always bought with my ears since i like to "make music". couldn't care less how the thing was made. hanging out in guitar stores i often hear the following transactions between potential buyers and sales staff:
"which guitar is best? -"How much do you have to spend today?" "buy a Martin" -"why?" -"better specs" "Martin uses a dovetail" -"what's that?" -"it's the way the neck is glued onto the guitar. they invented them, it's the best" "Stay away from those. Gibson's aren't worth the money" -"uh, ok" "Only Martin uses real hide glue" -"what is hide glue? you mean from like horse bones and stuff" -"yep, it's for more tone." "Buy a taylor" -"how come? "-we sell a lot of them" you can see where this is going right? |

Hello everybody,
I just wanted to thank you all again for the interesting insights, it's really great to have the opportunity to talk to so many experts with first hand experience! With regard to some inherent criticism I noted, of course it's essential how the guitar sounds and feels in your hands etc., but what's bad about wanting to know some construction details? Lutherie is just fascinating to me... |
