Slow country songs (tab book/mp3/cd) for picking and strumming on a J-45
I mention the guitar because if you have one you know what I mean. With the upcoming end of busy season I'll have more time for my other guitars, which include the J-45. Finger style, finger style, finger style all the time is like all work and no play sometimes. I need a break and I'd like to try some good old slow country for strumming and humming along. Any good suggestions for a book/cd/mp3 combo with good songs in it?

If I were you, Barry, I'd look for a good Kris Kristofferson book, CD, etc. My particular favorites are:
Help Me Make it Through the Night Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends Sunday Mornin' Breakdown (not completly sure of the title, but the "Sunday Mornin' " part is correct.) Lovin' Her Was Easier You can even do "Me and Bobby Magee" as a slow ballad.

I think you’re referring to “Sunday Morning Coming Down.”

"The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had one more for dessert."
Country songs sure are specific, aren't they? Find Malcolm Gladwell's podcast from his Revisionist History series, it's season 2 episode 6, titled "The King of Tears." You'll wish you were George Jones. Then listen to Mandolin Orange do "Golden Embers." Great song to play, with an interesting instrumental bridge and outro. You're going to want to find a fiddle player.

Heck, a strummed Amazing Grace in G would be great for this.
And then for fun, sing the Amazing Grace lyrics to the tune of House of the Rising Sun in Em. Another would be Good Night Irene, again in G

A few I forgot:
"Blue Eyes Cryin' " in the Rain Great Willie Nelson song Don't know if this one is considered Country, but The Eagles' "Lyin' Eyes" Also not strictly Country, Arlo Guthrie "City of New Orleans" great strummer with palm mute to simulate the track throb of a train. And a thank you to those who corrected my KK error. I was reaching into the dim recesses of a very old memory ;-) "The Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken."

''I'd like to try some good old slow country for strumming and humming along''
What's with the humming. Open your mouth and let it go! This is one of my favorite country songs and, in my opinion, one of the best songs ever about the life, sung by one of the greatest country voices ever.
