Problems with Cubase
I don't have a lot of experience recording with Cubase. Well, recording overall actually, lol. I installed Cubase 5 and I've had problem after problem after problem, and never could find out why. So I just decided to uninstall everything and re-install it. Now, I'm starting it for the first time and I'm afraid I might screw something up right away. So, can anyone help me out with the basics? To start off a new project, should I select any templates or just put it as empty??
I'm using a fast track, by M-Audio, and in the Devices Setup it doesn't indicate that. It recognizes only the generic one and one that says ASIO Full duplex...... I know this is really basic stuff, but these types of softwares always piss me off and I lose patience with them very quickly... Last edited by Manel Ferreira; 03-22-2013 at 01:56 PM. |

Do you have a manual? Get one or shop for a good book. There's lots of Cubase tutorials on YouTube and articles on the internet. No need to get PO'ed, it's just software. Wasn't going to respond to your thread but after listening to some of your stuff I think it's worth your time to learn to record. Will pay dividends over time. Also, you play really well!
I use Logic but your question about using a template or making a new recording is not specific to any program. My thought is your first project should be built from the ground up. You'll learn a lot doing it. Once you get it the way you want it then you can save your project as a template and even tweak it over time. Once you understand what it entails then the default templates will make more sense. Consider your DAW (Cubase) as an instrument itself that needs to be learned and used often just the same as your guitar if you really want to get good at it. Good luck! |

Alright Greg, thanks! My problem with this kind of stuff, is that, as anything, it's a little hard to start off, and I lose some patience because I'm so addicted to playing guitar, that I just can't sit in front of the computer for a few hours while I could be practising, or making new songs, ahah. Because of this, I usually try to find some shortcuts so I can skip the learning process a bit, but I know that's obviously NOT what I should do... I'll have to work at it! Also, I'm glad you liked my songs!

manel:you'll want to spend as much time as you can on the steinberg site. particularly the forum where you can ask questions of other cubase users and the knowledge base and tips and tricks sections as well as a downloaded manual for your unit. a little education will take you a long way!
here is their link. http://www.steinberg.net/en/support.html play music!

Manel - I can speak from experience with both the Fast Track and Cubase 5 on a PC. Patience, patience, patience...
First things frst...update the drivers for both the hardware and software! Personally, I had no significant issues with the Fast Track I had a few years back but stepped up to the Mbox Pro 3 ultimately and am much happier with the results. Quote:
If you have an integrated soundcard on your motherboard this could be conflicting with the Fast Track. Disable the integrated soundcard in the BIOS and reboot the PC and restart, etc. Let us know the results. Good luck!

Manel - that's great news now you can get to the fun stuff!
As far as learning Cubase I HIGHLY recommend this training website: http://www.askvideo.com/courses/cubase-application You can find a lot free tutorials on youtube, etc but the ask video series are far and away the most concise method to get you trained in all aspects of the software as well as keyboard shortcuts and macros to save you tons of time when the inspiration hits! One instructor in particular stood out to me: search for the titles by Matthew Loel T. Hepworth. He is a Steinberg product specialist. I've used the videos even though I had been using Cubase since version 3.x and I learned quite a bit from them. GNG
