I'm sorry, but you just explained how to finger the guitar under normal conditions. I don't believe you actually addressed the issues of having short fingers.

It's nice that he tried, but...
Having this guy talk about short fingers is like me (all 5'5") doing a video about the hassles of being tall. I heard no mention of short scales or capos, lowered action, playing up the neck or more compact chord formations. Maybe someone else will do a video about those workarounds?

Hey thanks for watching. I was going for more of a mindset here that even if you have small hands you can play the guitar if you have a guitar that fits your hand, you pay attention to your hand and thumb position and you play a little every day.

Thanks for watching. I was going for more of a mind set approach and encouraging folks to choose a guitar that feels good to them neckties, be aware of finger and thumb position and to play a little everyday and to not give up. The other topics you mention are great suggestions too.

I do appreciate what you're trying to do, but as as person with short fingers especially abnormally short pinkies , your "mindset" goes for anyone trying to learn how to play guitar. Things like using capos, partial chords, playing up the neck are all things that took me literally years to figure out. So your lesson on how to play with short fingers is kind of "short" sighted.

I enjoy and appreciate Kevin's videos. But unless someone actually has short, fat fingers they really don't know what it's like.
End of story. Also, these discussions rarely, if ever, address palm shape/size which is also a factor. |
