Default Carl Miner impersonation thread

I thought it might be fun to share recordings of our favorite Carl Miner TNAG demos, seeing how many of you seem to share my love for his musical ideas.

I'll get us started with the two pieces I stole from him that I play the most. Note that I haven't heard the originals in a few months, so there is a good chance that I've changed them quite a bit, but that's part of the fun.

I really need to work on my hybrid picking so that I can keep the bass going when playing the melody!

Let's hear your pieces!

Nice job on these Brian.

I will see if I can find time to record something I have been messing with taken from Carl Miner.

I'll add something in here soon - I'm only playing Carl's tunes at the moment!

@brian - I didn't recognise either of the pieces you shared (but they both sounded great) - they are not in my 10+ list of what to learn next. I am going to avoid his hybrid tunes though - I'm not ready to try that technique.

I started a separate thread in Show & Tell for the video I made of Carl Miner's theme here.

I decided to start a separate thread because I ended up comparing the sounds of three different guitars using the same Carl Miner theme. I compared my Collings OM1A Deep Body to my Santa Cruz OM/PW and then compared my Olson SJ (cedar/rosewood). I felt that the guitar comparison theme might take this thread off course.

Still, I wanted to contribute to this thread because I have appreciate Carl Miner's playing so much lately.

The video on YouTube is here:

I have had this haunting melody running through my head all night long. Please note that I did not attempt to flat pick this piece as Carl Miner plays it. I started out flat picking it but realized I do not have Carl's skill with a flat pick. So instead, I finger picked this, where my skills can at least come closer to doing justice to Carl's haunting theme. Also, I did not try to duplicate Carl's version of this song, but rather used his thematic ideas for my own version.

Thanks for listening!

- Glenn

Hi Tom,

Here are the two pieces that I attempted:

And here is the one that Glenn performed so nicely:

Just by chance, they were #1, 2, and 3 on my favorites list on youtube!

I have been working on the tune that Glenn performed for the last few days am am quite happy with the sound I got out of my McIlroy with the capo up so high- I'm usually not much of a capo user.

Edit: sorry about the very prominent noise from my kids playing in the background. I guess this just makes it more authentic, as that's what playing guitar sounds like at my house.

Brian,

I would like to listen to what you have done, but I cannot get access to your file on Google drive. So, I'm kind of stuck...

Just stuck this in my thread in Play/Write, but I'll put it here too (as I dunno if I'll get round to re-recording it in the near future).

My attempt at Carl's tune from his demo of a Collings OM 1 AT:

Wow, Tom!

That sounds terrific! What great tone you are getting from your flat picking!

My compliments! That was wonderful!
