NBD - New banjo day
I'm NOT a banjo player, but I've always loved the sound of clawhammer banjo. Banjo's aren't as common on the ground here (Australia) and decent ones are expensive. I'd tried a couple of these Deering Americanas in stores over the years and really liked them, as much as a non-banjo player can tell. I had my 60th coming up, saw this on Gumtree (our craigslist) for a great price. I got my wife to buy it, had it in a box on the shelf for a few weeks. I held off opening or even looking until my actual birthday. Yesterday was my birthday! Very happy.

You're gonna have fun with that. The Deering Goodtime banjos are nice!

Awesome... congratulations! When I think of clawhammer banjo, I think of Steve Baughman. You'll be playing like him in no time!

I think you made the perfect choice for learning clawhammer. The deering's are the only beginning banjos that I recommend, and you can't really go wrong. If the americana had existed when I was buying my first, I would have gone with that. I ended up with the standard open back banjo. Loved it.

Great choice for your 1st banjo. Deering Goodtimes can't be beat in their price range.
