Default Get Your Pinkie Strong

Here is a replay of a live Youtube video of a quick pinkie exercise.

Enjoy!

I find my ring finger to be much weaker than my pinky. If I hold my hand with my palm parallel to the table, fingers bent 90 degrees at the first knuckle and fingertips just touching the table, and then I try to lift each finger vertically from the table without moving the other 3, I find the ring finger VERY hard to lift, but the other 3 (including the pinky) not too hard at all.

For many people, the ring finger shares some tendons/muscles with other fingers (pinkie and/or middle). The reason you can't lift it is because you are fighting against it with the other fingers. Try the same experiment again, but allow your pinkie to lift with it.

This is one of the reasons my guitar teacher yelled at me when I planted my pinkie on the soundboard while finger-picking.
