Default Rainsong - bone saddle & preferred strings?

This for you Rainsong owners.

1. Has anyone replaced the Tusq with Bone saddles? Result?

2. What steel strings do you prefer in terms of brand and gauge? Why?

Thanks,
PTL

Not Rainsong, but replaced saddle and pins on a CA Legacy with Colosi FWI, and it was a really nice improvement gor relatively little bucks.

My Legacy has vintage voicing, so use 80/20 D'Addario or John Pearce to brighten it up a bit when in a small group with a couple singers, and DR Rare Phos. Bronze when I want more bottom/strumming.

Default Rainsong

I replaced the original nut and saddle for bone, the sound is no difference but I really believe there is more "sustain" (not that sustain was ever a problem). My favorite strings are the Dean Markley Goldbronze, they sound really nice on this guitar (WS-1000) and last every bit as long as the Elixers I was using before. They are warmer than the Elizers also.

Haven't replaced the saddle. I have a JM1000 and I prefer Elixir PB Nanos, light gauge. On a guitar that makes everything clearer and brighter, string squeak seems a bit more annoying to me. Elixirs minimize it the most, and the PB Nanos typically flake a little less than the 80/20 Nanos.

RainSong doesn't recommend trying medium gauge strings at standard tuning -- maybe they could start to pull off the bridge. I find custom lights and extra lights too slinky.

I didn't swap the nut or saddle on the one I had. Wouldn't expect much of an advantage their. I did try many different string set and for Elixirs Nano lights 12-53 to be best?
