Adi Custom HD28V
Looking at going from my standard 2012 hd28
To a an custom adi hd28v with forward bracing I won’t be able to play it..what can I expect? I’ve never played adi only Sitka in my life and I’m very curious both exploring it at a reasonable price. |

I've got one of the Sweetwater HD-28V Customs with Adi top and forward shifter Adi bracing, also has a great 1 11/16" Mod V neck, which I love. I would say the biggest difference I notice with the Adi top is it appears to have endless headroom. You can really dig into this guitar, even strumming, and not overpower the top like you can with Sitka.

I have acquired over the years a few adi tops.
A Collings C10 (smaller guitar) a Gibson Banner SJ, and a D18GE. Compared with sitka tops on a J40, Collings CJ45T and an OM28V… The three adi guitars have similarities in tone I think can be attributed to the adi: play as loud and as hard as you can without tone breakdown. Fat trebles. The sitka guitars all have a little warmth to them and a little less top end. Probably more noticeable to me than the wood differences, is the scalloped braces on that D18GE. really fattening up the tones. |

I recently played a HD-28V and it was totally tone dead.
I've also played HD-28V's that are wonderful instruments. I too LOVE the MOD V neck on these and the FSSB. Be sure there's an ironclad return policy if you can't play before buying. |

I have a custom HD-28V with an adi top but it has some additional embellishments - Madagascar back and sides, all hide glue construction and maple binding. I suspect the biggest influence on sound is the top (without any real evidence) but the sum total is that I like the sound and power of this guitar better than my D-28 Authentic.

HD28
Over the years I’ve played several HD28’s and HD28V’s and to be honest I’ve not been a fan of either model . I have owned a D28 Marquis and played many others and they are a different animal. The adi top and the GE scalloped bracing on the marquis makes the difference imo.
I’ve looked at the Sweetwater HD28V custom guitars and the specs are almost identical to a D28 marquis apart from the slightly narrower nut with and string spacing. I bet these are amazing sounding instruments! I also played a standard D28 with the satin finish a couple of days ago and was blown away how good it sounded. It has the 1 3/4 “ neck if that’s what you prefer ?
