Default Englemann or Sitka

I am purchasing a Martin 00-28 VS and wanted to know the difference and pros and Con over Englemann & Sitka.
Sincerely, Ken.

Typically, sitka is perceived to produce a bit more headroom, and hold up better under a more aggressive attack, while producing a more fundamental tone. Englemann tends to be a bit softer of a wood, and to be a bit more responsive with more "sparkle" and overtones.

In reality, specimens from both varieties can overlap a fair amount, so an individual specimen might lean more one way than the other.

Here's an article about it by Dana Bourgeois:

Interesting article Warfrat, cheers. You can't agree more.

I have both wood on my guitars, I like them both, they both sound great. My OMJM is only a 16 series but it sounds fantastic.

If you're a heavy handed strummer go for the Sitka. Engelmann has lots of complex overtones that get lost in the sonic windstorm when strummed hard.

I believe engelman is generally considered to be more responsive, generally better for finger style, etc.

But, as someone already pointed out this can be a generalization that does not always hold true.

I thought I would like Englemann. It came on my Eastman 822, but it really didnt please me. it sounded too simple and plain, which was weird bc I expected there to be more overtones and such.

The baked sitka on my 614 sounds wonderful though, and love it for fingerstyle!
Dont go overboard on generalizations, especially bc the 2 spruces are so close in physical properties.
