Oh wait, NOW I remember! I didn't delete that - a moderator did. Yes, I now remember what I wrote in my attempt at humor. I forget that there are those with little to no sense of humor on this forum. My apologies to those so easily offended.

I no longer keep guitars out of their cases because I have 9 grandkids and a 5-month old puppy.

Barry, I use the same case rack you use and can “just” fit 5 cases in each rack.

Paul, by the looks of those case I'd say you have some mighty fine guitars.

I like the rack that you are using.

My music room is a spare bedroom in my wife and I's house, the the closet his were I keep my guitars but I have been thinking to really fixing it up as a dedicated place to store them.

It gets pretty dry here in Tx in the winter. I have taken over the office in the house for my music room and keep the doors closed and have a room humidifier keeping the room between 45 and 50%. I am going to be putting reclaimed wood on one wall and hang some of my guitars which I think will be really cool.

The point of this is that I got the wood shipped, unpacked it and left in the music room to acclimate before putting it up and the humidifier ran for 3 straight days when normally it runs 3-4 times a day max. That wood must have been really dry and was just sucking up the moisture in the room. It dropped to 40 on the gauge.

Just thought that was interesting. My thought is once it is up to the same humidity as the rest of the room and up on the wall, it will help to maintain the humidity. I could be wrong. But, I have a humidity controlled display case in there as well and the manufacturer lines it with wood with the explanation to me being it helps maintain humidity in the case. I am thinking the wall will do the same for the room. Time will tell.

There's more than a few women here, daughters, wives and grandmothers.

This isn't the men's locker room.

I read the comment in the post before it was removed by a moderator. I wondered how long it would take for a moderator to notice it. I understand it was intended as humor (and I'm not saying I have never laughed at similar) but I have to agree with Barry regarding the audience. It was just a poor choice of words. Maybe you could have said cases are for sissies.

Your luck has been better than mine.
Over the last 25 years I’ve owned 25 or so guitars.
Two have had significant top cracks from being poorly cared for before coming to me.
I’ll add an old Ovation that had a grain line that would widen every time it got too dry. It never actually cracked. But I always caught it and got it humidifying as soon as I did.
Might as well add a Yairi with mild bridge lift.
That’s four out of 25.
And that includes my laminate top guitars and a carbon fiber guitar.
If I took them out it would be 4/22.
That’s 18% of my guitars have had/shown some humidity related issue.
And I keep them cased and humidified from the time the hygrometers drop below 40%.

You do you. But it doesn’t hurt, nor is it expensive to monitor and maintain humidity.
You CAN spend a load on Humidi-packs. And electric humidifiers/vaporizers.
Or...you can run to the local grocery and buy a big bag of O-cello sponges and Rubbermaid or Glad containers and make in case humidifiers.
Cheap insurance for expensive guitars.
I check and re-wet sponges every Sunday.
And I run the humidifier on the HVAC wide open all winter.
