Default Lady of the Woods build thread

Here's a new one that I just started a few days ago. This one is a Carpathian spruce/quilted maple small bodied guitar. The carvings on this one are in mahogany. They are 1/2" deep at the deepest point. The neck will also be mahogany and will hopefully look seemless as if it actually extends into the body. I hope you follow along for this build, and I welcome any questions you have.

Wow!

That's awesome, I have never seen an approach like that before. Way to go, can't wait to see it finished!

Thanks Pgilmore. Harv, that is quite a compliment coming from you. Your work is fantastic, and I'm sure you'd catch on pretty quick to the carving thing

I don't think I've seen a build thread like this before, that looks amazing!!!! I can't wait to see it finished.

Is there any impact to how the back reflects the sound?

Thanks David and Dru. As far as sound, I can only give hypothesis at this point since this is a first like this one. If it's anything like how
http://69.41.173.82/forums/showthread.php?p=2980569 this one ended up, it definitely didn't have a negative impact on the sound. I would think that it will make the back more active than passive, maybe adding a little warmth and sustain to the maple back. But, like I said, that's only hypothesis at this point. The mahogany is incredibly lightweight, so there will be very little added weight to the back.

Or...inside the box as the case may be.

Very beautiful work.

Default wow that looks amazing!

i can only imagine what it will look like once it's finished.
i love the depth of the artwork that this particular design produces.

i wonder if you'll hang this one up backside out when it's all said and done!

Here's an update on the progress on this build. It's going a bit slower than anticipated since I'm working on an F style mandolin as well right now. As you can see the box is now together and the next steps will be binding and purfling. I'm going to keep it really simple on this one. This little box taps really nicely, and the silking in the top has me really excited about this one.

I've gotten the binding all complete on this one now. It's a simple cocobolo line and maple binding. I've also been working on the shading on the carving and it is now finished. I was a little worried about how visible the couple in the background would be, but I'm very pleased with how it came out. And, the maple is just crazy looking with the first coat of finish on it. Hope you all enjoy and thanks for following this build.

That maple back is amazing, and the carving is wonderful. I like the overall design - really harmonious.
