They announce the RH on the news every day and this happens every year. just keep an eye on your numbers and check you gear every week. It's just part of the gig.

I would be wary of using weather service temp and humidity info to gauge local conditions, inside or outside your house. I have found they can be inaccurate. Always better to use thermometers and hygrometers to take readings in your immediate environment.

Weather service daily announcements lets you know whether your RH is going up or down. Your inside (especially in case) numbers won't change as radically. It gives you plenty of notice that your RH is dropping. Like everything else, it's a tool not a solution.

Agreed. My cases seem to keep my guitars humidity relatively stable. Definitely an unusual dry spell here in Northern California. Inside my house, the relative humidity went as low as 23% over the past couple of weeks. It is 41% in my home this morning. The inside of my cases never got below 40% when it was the driest and this morning read 48%. Definitely a good time to pay a bit more attention but my guitars seem pretty resilient in managing these kind of changes over the dry season in my area.

Best,
Jayne

If there's one thing I've learned about RH it's that it can vary quite a bit, even within the house, and among different guitars/cases. It's 16% RH where I am sitting in my house at present (dining/living room). It's 39% in a closed bedroom closet where my guitars sit in their cases. Inside the Martin cases it's about 52% give or take, while the Orangewood gig bag measures 42%.

I did notice how nice my acoustics sounded last week when the RH was down to 12%...

I run a humidifier anytime my music room drops below 37% this morning I got up and I am at 40% and I feel that is the optimal for the best tone from my guitars.

I paid the price only once and I never want that to happen again so I am very diligent about the humidity.
