Default NGD! Guild content

A couple of weeks ago I was perusing the local Sale ads and found this.
It has been a short road of heartache and happiness.
I did not know I was getting into a “rescue” or a “project”.
I wasn’t being nearly as vigilant as I should have been and didn’t really notice that the string courses were reversed.
And with the heavier strings going to the bottom of the bridge...there was some bridge lift.
Got that fixed, and strung the old girl up, and pow! A top crack below the A strings to the endpin!
I am a former Sailor, and a Former prison nurse. I’ll let you imagine the vocabulary that I used.
Thankfully, I have a friend that is a luthier. He has fixed it. He has also cautioned me to not tune it to concert pitch. And to keep an eye on the bridge for any further lifting.

As a part of all that, I decided to use the lightest 12-string set I could find. This new (to me) Guild is wearing GHS PB 9-42’s. And it sounds pretty terrific and living up to the Guild name.

Nice rescue.
I once owned one like it.
If you keep it tuned to D to D, you should be fine using regular light gauge strings on it.

Just be sure to keep a humidifier in the case with the guitar and don't let it get dry.
That is usually the cause for the problems that your guitar had experienced.

A Guild Jumbo 12 string: it doesn't get much better than that! Congrats on the find.

With the 9-42’s it’s a little “floppy” In Eb-Eb.
I have played a few US made Guilds and Chinese Guilds.
This 2512 is way closer to what I expected, than the guitars in the shop were.

I have some EB 9-45’s and D’addario 9-45’s for the next string changes.
I don’t intend to tune any higher than Eb.
And I don’t intend to go to even a 10-47 string set.
It feels like it was set up
For these strings.
And it still sounds great, plenty of sparkle. But a good “rumble” as well.
