Default David Bowie Appreciation Thread: Who Loves & Misses Him as Much as Me?

I had the great good fortune to see Bowie twice during the Ziggy Stardust years, and several times after that. One of the greatest live performances of all time.

Here's an interesting clip from that time, 1972:

Feel free to share thoughts, feelings, impressions and anything else you like about this seminal artist.

I listened to Bowie mostly due to friends who were into his music. But when I heard "David Live" from The Tower Theater Philadelphia during the Diamond Dogs Tour in '74 I was hooked. Earl Slick just amazed me on that recording. IMO some of the very best of Bowie's early work captured live.

So many great musical styles. And looks.
My cousin, who has worked in the music business for many years, says that he was kind and gracious to work for, on tour.

There is no one like him. Truly unique and a true artist in every sense of the word. Space Oddity is one of my favorite 12-string songs ever. And let’s not forget Mick Ronson. So tasteful. What a terrific pair they made.

In the mid seventies, my girlfriend at the time, wanted to go to the Bowie concert in Toronto.

I liked Bowie, but wasn't a big fan, that concert changed all that, one of THE best concerts, I've ever been to period.

He definitely knew how to entertain, and man, that guy could sing.

My first "real" concert was Bowie's Diamond Dogs Tour which was both amazing and a bit disappointing (I'd missed the Ziggy/Aladdin Sane shows). I pretty much abandoned Bowie after the mid-80s, but bought The Next Day based on excellent reviews, then Blackstar. Now I find myself reacquainting myself with his 90s/00s work.

My older sister, Kris (God rest her soul!) turned me onto Bowie after Ziggy came out. What a fantastic album and talent!! He is missed.

Just tonight I watched the season finale of Stranger Things and heard Peter Gabriel singing Bowie’s song Heroes over the end credits. It fit the story perfectly and, like so many of his songs, there was an aching poignancy that continued to haunt me after the music stopped.

We don’t really have to miss him; he left so much of himself behind.

Simply a legend. We may never see an artist like him again. In chicago years ago, my aunt jumped a fence and layed a kiss on him she has often recalled.

Default Note the instructions at the bottom...

...on the back cover of "The Rise and Fall..."

I often followed those instructions (when my parents were out of the house)

Oh Starman, you left us too soon.
I’m 62 years old and never get tired of the Spiders From Mars LP.
He was so, so cool. A big chapter in the book of rock.
