I have 9
4 acoustics
5 electrics

I got a 86' charvel model 2 electric when I was 14. Was pearl white when I got it. Now it's light yellow from the years. Still plays great with minimal fret wear. Will never get rid of it.

Owned plenty in between,

07' Fender Strat American Deluxe
16' Gibson LP Standard
14' Gibson SG Standard
93' Fender Tele MIM

Acoustics in the signature below

All of them are fun to play and have the distinctions.

Our Dog's name is Gibson if that tells you anything about my wife

Well, I put the last guitar that I had planned on selling on consignment yesterday (along with a wonderful 5-string banjo that I just don't play enough). I am down to now only owning the 4 guitars that I will take into retirement with me in a couple of years. Feels good to create the opportunity for these instruments to make their way into the hands of players that will appreciate them.

So, as of today, I have 4 at home and 2 on consignment.

Best,
Jayne

Interesting that after 381 votes, those who own 4-5 guitars form the largest number.

And clearly most people have somewhere between 2 and 10 guitars. Which would make total sense for a guitar forum. And probably 100% of us here only play one at a time. (There may be an outlier here somewhere who can play two at once, who knows?)
Best,
Jayne

Or you could also say most people have 6 or more guitars!

Also the survey seems to show that something happens tipping-point-wise in the "high teens," and after that it's over the cliff to larger numbers of guitars.

As to playing more than one at a time: well I've never invested in one of those playing height/position stands as I've seen in a few progressive rock band videos, but I've switched mid-song a few times (not to a different guitar of the same general type, but acoustic to electric, or guitar to electric bass--and keyboards, percussion and trigger pads aren't even in the discussion, but since one can play guitar with the fretting hand alone (hammering-on the notes) and something non-guitar with the other, there's been times I've played more than one instrument at once.

Since my current project requires intensive recording with an avowed goal of variety in sound and genre, I'm playing more than one instrument (often more than one guitar) on a great many audio pieces in the past few years. Not exactly at the same time, but given that the majority of my accumulation ("collection" sounds like a plan) is over a decade old, it's been one of the times I'm finally beginning to make practical use of it.

Telecaster, Stratocaster and a Ric 330.

Collings C10 Deluxe, Bourgeois Custom OM, J45 and a Luthier-made 000 in the style of a Martin 000-18.

I expect to come down to the tele, strat, Bourgeois, and the 000 over the next 6 months. I might keep the J45 too, but I'm not sure about that.

Yes, that is certainly true! Lots of ways to slice and dice stats.

Smile Reviving a 1-year old Poll. :)

Hi. Reviving this 1-year old Poll in case new members would like to vote. 428 votes as of now. Please feel free to vote if you have not.

In terms of number of guitars. Last year (this time), I had 7, currently 6. Not much has changed. GAS has been kept in check!

I have one guitar. I could also count my wife's guitar because it is there and she hasn't played it for forty years, but I don't because she keeps reminding me it is her guitar and not to sell it. Just for the sake of those who's wives tell them how many guitars they can have, I have no such restrictions. I could buy more if I wanted them, I just can't sell her's to do it.

Interesting scenario! Do you experience GAS for a new guitar?

I'm sure there are many here that have bought more guitars since this was first issued.
