Default Yamaha FG/FS Red Label!

Has anyone else heard of these models yet?

https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musi...l#product-tabs

Sign me up for an FGX5. The new pickup sounds like it is similar to the A.R.T. system. The "5" models get a wood pick guard, ebony bridge pins, bone nut and saddle and hardshell case.

The "3" models get a hard bag, black plastic pick guard, plastic bridge pins and urea nut and saddle.

The "X" models have an undersaddle piezo pickup for low frequencies, an actual microphone for the mids, as well as a transducer style body sensor.

It appears that all models have 1 3/4" nut width, open gear tuners, solid sitka tops, solid mahogany back and sides, matte-finished mahogany necks, and the A.R.E. treated tops.

Curious to see when these are available, and the price. Regardless, I will be buying the FGX5

Long & McQuade (in Canada) has the FGX5 on their website for $1749.

Those do indeed look sweet. Like the slightly shorter scale compared to most of their other offerings. Might have to check one out (I'd be wanting the FSX3, myself...)

So if it doesn’t have the X it doesn’t have electronics?

It looks like a very responsive mic/pickup system.
Nice!

Correct. That's how the current FG line goes as well.

I like the FG3 and would love to add it to my small Yamaha collection. Looks just like a more 'modern' FG180 with some nice appointments added.

Looking at the spec, it just seems odd that the only difference between the Series 3 and Series 5 are the nut/saddle, bridge pins, and pick guard. What can be the total cost difference between those parts, $10 or $15? (The other difference is the case)

It is hard to imagine how those seemly minor difference make it worthwhile to undergo the complexity of manufacturing and marketing two different lines.

Model 5 is made in Japan. Model 3 will be most probably produced in China? So the same story as for L series 16 vs. 26.

So we might be looking at somewhere around the $1000 mark for the acoustic-only FG3, which would align it with the now discontinued LL16M. For that price I would definitely be interested. I wonder how the FG3 compares with the FG180 Reissue of 2016.
