Tempting. I want to pick up either Tallstrom's arrangement of "lion sleeps tonight"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqWSNt1mfjA

or "Whiter Shade of Pale"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3DLarwDOO0
I've never posted recordings.... so that would be new.

Put in about 45 minutes of practice this morning, making good progress.

Day 7: marathon 4+ hour practice last night. Spent the last hour on I'll Fly Away and I finally played it through without a mistake. Looking forward to recording Saturday!

No recording for me this weekend as I'm away. I still have to get the last solo sorted anyhow. Looked at this yesterday and today and it's pretty straight forward once the timing is sorted.
And of course there's still the singing.

Tough weekend for me too, getting a cord delivered, so we got to move it by hand and the front door has to get painted and I have to paint the ceiling in the kitchen and dining room. Maybe I will get an hour in, lol

I'll jump in a little late. Been busy at work so I haven't been on, but still playing.

Doug I've got an arrangement of "I'll fly away" I'll share as soon as I get to recording it.

The song I'm working on now is Doc Watsons "life is like a river".

Day one, stared at the tab for a while tying to get used to dropping the thumb down to the 3rd string and not using the ring finger for D minor. Something so simple is very perplexing. Trying to break habbit is frustrating. The syncopation is very different from anything I've done in the past. But it's looking promising. There is one picking part (what I'm working on) the rest is just strummed.

Most of the songs I learn take me a month or so

Day two of actual learning. Gary Davis's syncopated playing style is harder than I thought it was from just listening. Yeah, I'm probably not the first person to realize that. I keep finding myself off beat, even when tapping my foot to keep time.

I have a band rehearsal tomorrow which will eat up most of the day between playing and driving time. To be continued on Monday.

It's no masterpiece but it'll do.

Nice job Doug. Sounds like a fairly complicated piece, there is a lot going on there.

I'll see if I can get my whole tune recorded this week. I could never memorize it this fast, but I will be able to sight read it as it is repetitive. And then, on to the next!

Like how the sycopation opens up To resolve. Also like the pinch triads and how they carry the melody. Great stuff Doug! Got a mediocre version recorded of both tunes recorded not too long ago. Maybe I'll see if I got anything worth posting here in a bit.

sorry I haven't posted, but I have been working on my song, the circle game. It's fingerstyle, I've got the tune done, it's just the embellishments that I need to finish up...I will post again on my progress, this is fun, I'm enjoying myself!
