Default What's the best sounding laminate guitar you can remember hearing?

Yamaha FG 340. All laminate made in Taiwan circa 1980. Big rich sound with some nuance and quite a bit of growl.
People love the "red label" all laminate Yamahas made at Nippon Gakki Japan in the late 60s - early 70s, especially FG 180 and FG 300. I haven't played any. Don't buy them sight unseen, because most of them need neck resets.
Love me some yammie lammies!

My best lammy was an Epiphone EJ-200 that I had about 10 years ago. It was made by Samick in Korea. The sound was deep and great, but was more because of the shape of the guitar than the tonewoods. (My current EJ has a solid top and sounds much better, but the old EJ held its own! ♫ ♪ ♫)

Taylor GS Mini. Amazing tone from that little guitar!

Come to think of it, Sharkydude has an old Sigma that is incredible. I wouldn't be surprised to hear a bunch of members mention their Sigma guitars.

Alvarez Yairis. These were all solid-topped guitars though.

Come to think of it you're right. Back in the day I had a Sigma for a bit and man I loved that guitar! Incredible tone and very playable. Sometimes I wish I still had it.

From all that I have tried, the Martin HPL's are the most convincing. I do like the Martin sound though.

Absolutely, 100% agreed.

I have an all laminated Epiphone DR100 and it sounds pretty nice. According to the site specs, she's spruce top and mahogany back and sides. I didn't expect this cheap guitar had such a nice sound.
I just changed the saddle and pins for bones ones.

I like the sound of the Gibson L-48.

I believe it to be all laminate...

+1 here, except I might reverse them...depending on my mood. Both sound fantastic.

Mine are not all-laminate: tops are solid cedar.

Sorry guys, are we talking about laminated guitars ? If it has a top solid wood it is not at all laminated. There's a huge difference, excuse me.

That's the way I read it. Laminate top, back, sides.

Yes the A&L "wild cherry" guitars fit the bill...and they sound very nice.

Did you mean to say not all laminated? Because laminated back and sides are laminated, and guitars with them could not be referred to as not at all laminated.

The OP wasn't clear one way or the other which he was asking, as the variety of responses attests. Plus, to many on this forum, laminated back/sides is as much of a sin as all-laminate...

Ok, I meant; If the guitar has either top or back or sides solid woods then it is not all laminated. All laminated means just that "all laminated".
Maybe we have to create a new term such as " semi laminated"
Anyway, I understood your point @reholli
