Why bother with toilet paper at all? It seems too complicated after reading this thread, and besides that - the money is better spent on guitars.

Hands down paper over the front of the roll.....And if the wife puts it on wrong. I'll flip that sucker as fast as a gunslinger tucks his 6 shooter in his holster

Do you ever wonder, when you shake hands with a stranger, where his or her hands/fingers might have been just prior to the meeting? Hmmmmm….

A recent survey indicated that a surprising number of us don't wash our hands after using the bathroom. How accurate such polls are, I don't know, but it does stand to reason. Those who were in the military, and therefore suddenly thrust into the company of folks we may never have otherwise lived in close quarters with, are well aware of the vast differences in how we were raised and how different our local ways can be.

I travel frequently for business and find myself in airport Mens Rooms all over the country and I can tell you first hand the number of men not washing their hands is disturbingly high.

I sometimes have to restrain myself from saying something....

Just carry a bit of finger food with you and offer some to the guy. Of course, he may take you up on it and then you would be stuck with that image long afterward.

It is possible that more people ARE washing their hands, since at least around these parts, there are those little stations that provide anti-bacterial goop to wipe your hands with. These are in all manner of public buildings these days.

Well, in the spirit of this thread...

I read somewhere that whoever invented the toilet paper roll, intended that it be draped over the front, rather than accessed from the back. That is my preference because it seems easier to work with.

For those putting on the prudish air, perhaps this post might be more to their liking, unless of course it is personal rather than contextual.

From The Correct Way to Hang Toilet Paper, According to Science

According to science, the correct way to hang toilet paper is "over." Why? Because "under" vastly increases the possibility that food-poisoning bacteria will spread from the restroom to the rest of the workplace.

A recent study conducted at the University of Colorado revealed that even an apparently clean office restroom is a dirty Petri dish:

"Using a high-tech genetic sequencing tool, researchers identified 19 groups of bacteria on the doors, floors, faucet handles, soap dispensers, and toilets of 12 public restrooms in Colorado -- six men's restrooms and six women's restrooms. Many of the bacteria strains identified could be transmitted by touching contaminated surfaces."

Much of bacteria found in public restrooms is e. coli from human feces, a common source of food poisoning. E-coli is easily transferred from surfaces to your fingers and thence to anything that you eat with your hands.

Which brings us to hanging toilet paper. The moment when a restroom user's hands are most likely to carry bacteria is when they reach for toilet paper.

If the toilet paper is hung "over" their fingers only touch the toilet paper that they'll be using, which will subsequently be flushed.

However, if the toilet paper is hung "under" there's a good chance their fingers will brush the wall as well, leaving a deposit.

If so, every subsequent restroom user who reaches for toilet paper runs the risk of not only of picking up the bacteria that's been deposited already, but also leaving more for the next user to pick up.

Just as important, the "under" hang--and subsequent likelihood of touching the wall--also makes it more difficult to use a scrap of toilet paper to keep from directly touching the toilet seat, flush handle and stall lock without getting bacteria from the wall on your hand.

One of my greatest fears is a shortage of toilet paper. I worry about workers having strikes at the factories.
