When first announced I recall seeing it on a magazine cover in a favorite shop. I and the shop owner just kinda shook our heads.

What's the thinking behind $124,999? Why is that a more attractive price than $125,000? I mean, at that price the dollar seems a little disingenuous.

I keep my searches under $125,000, so I wouldn't have found it.

If I won the lottery this Martin would definitely be on my list of "must-haves."

Don't you think you have to look at it for what it is?

It's a piece of functional art, created for the most dedicated Martin guitar collectors.

The one thing you can count on is it's value will never go down if kept in collector condition.

I think it would be a fair assumption, for whoever was to buy this, it would more than likely be displayed next to his previously purchased 1 millionth edition that Martin produced.

These over-the-top commemorative guitars aren't my cup of tea, as they say, but I've been a fan of Roland Murphy's watches since I learned about them through Richard Sachs 15 or so years ago. The making of the actual two-millionth guitar is pretty crazy:

RGM Collaborates On Two Millionth Martin Guitar

If you go back to the early days of Martin, the New York days, the guitars were very opulent. Maybe the Quaker influence or the clear, Pennsylvania air encouraged the later generations to make the guitars more modest in appearance.

I got a chance to see one of these D-200s at a Martin event last year, and the workmanship is insanely intricate. I could see these guitars appealing to the folks who pay $300k in cash for a car. Filling the tank in the plane for a month costs more than one of these guitars. It's a bauble.

It actually sounded a lot better than I expected.

The word "pretentious" comes to mind. Build a clock or a watch if you're feeling geary. Inane is another word to describe it.Just because you can doesn't mean you have to.
